The practice of nursing requires specialized knowledge, judgment, and skills to provide care to groups and individuals. The RN utilizes knowledge derived from the principles of biological, physical, behavioral, social, and nursing sciences to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care. All care is provided based on the concepts inherent in the model of care for TCH which promotes an on-going partnership between patients and families and the team of healthcare providers. The care is culturally based and age specific. The RN adheres to American Nursing Association (ANA) code of ethics and to the scope of practice described in the Ohio Nurse Practice Act.
The Cardiovascular Operating Room is a subset of our Main Operating Room, consisting of 3 open heart rooms, 1 cardiovascular/thoracic robot room and 1 hybrid room. It is a fast-paced, critical environment where our staff of Registered Nurses, Surgical Technologists, Surgical Assistants, and support staff work together to provide nationally recognized care. Our CVOR staff is highly proficient in complex and specialized cardiovascular surgical procedures including CABG, mitral/aortic valve repair/replacement, heart transplants, balloon pumps, Impella insertions, LVADs, RVADs, ECMO, ascending aortic aneurysms, minimally invasive procedures, and robotic heart/chest procedures. In the hybrid room, our CVOR staff assists with endovascular repairs of thoracic and abdominal aortic aneurysms and acts as standby for procedures done by the Cath Lab and EP Lab. Our patients are high acuity and often have many co-morbidities. Good patient outcomes and patient safety is our number one priority and staff is highly supported by nursing leadership and medical leadership.
