Registered Nurse IV

The Dr. John C. Corrigan Mental Health center is seeking dedicated and compassionate individuals for the position of Registered Nurse IV who desire a rewarding career making a difference in the lives of individuals. Our ideal candidate for this position will work with and assist other professional staff in providing da-to-day direct care to individuals on a 16-bed secured inpatient unit with serious and persistent mental illness, including monitoring patient's behaviors, providing direct nursing care and patient teaching in regard to health and wellness, medication and illness management. The selected candidate will possess strong interpersonal skills to encourage and motivate individuals in their recovery to work towards treatment goals.


Please Note:This position is 40 hours per week.The selected candidate will work the first shift, 6:45 am - 3:15 pm. The days off will be Week I - Sunday/Thursday and Week II - Tuesday/Saturday.

Employees in this position will be required to perform mandatory overtime.


Duties and Responsibilities (these duties and responsibilities are not all inclusive):

Functions as Charge Nurse on the Inpatient Unit, providing primary nursing care to patients utilizing nursing process and following standards of care.Directs the nursing activities on assigned shift on the Corrigan Inpatient Unit.Evaluates nursing activities by reviewing patient charts, observing nursing care and visiting patients to ensure that nursing care is carried out as directed and treatment is administered in accordance with physician’s instructions.Authorize overtime for shift personnel and transportation of patients to other health cate facilities for regularly scheduled appointments and in emergency situations.Monitor and implement policies and procedures of the Corrigan Inpatient Unit to meet Joint Commission and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services regulations.Ensures compliance with established standards for quality of patient documentation systems, which include patient records, patient care plans, restraint forms, and Medication Administration Records.Provides ongoing supervision to all RN, LPN, and MHW staff on assigned shift of the Inpatient Unit by meeting at least monthly with each RN to review work performance, recommend corrective action and evaluate ongoing progress.Ensures a comprehensive and accurate communication network between nursing staff and unit management.Monitors and evaluates all emergency situations on the Corrigan Inpatient Unit.Monitors assigned employees’ sick leave utilization on a monthly basis to determine if patterns of sick usage have occurred, and counsel employees on sick leave utilization as needed, documenting process as required.Ensures all documentation in the medical record reflects knowledge of the patient’s comprehensive treatment plans.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working with individuals with serious mental illness, behavioral or mood disturbances. Experience working in facilities that are accredited by the Joint Commission, Department of Public Health, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL LEVELS IN SERIES: Current and valid registration as a professional nurse under the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing.

Recent graduates from an approved school of nursing must have applied for the first available registered nurse examination. Based on assignment, possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Operator's license may be required.

Salary placement is determined by a combination of factors, including the candidate’s years of directly related experience and education, and alignment with our internal compensation structure as set forth by the Human Resources Division’s Hiring Guidelines. For all bargaining unit positions (non-management), compensation is subject to the salary provisions outlined in the applicable collective bargaining agreement and will apply to placement within the appropriate salary range.
