JOB SUMMARY:
The Wound Care Nurse is a sub specialty area. We are willing to train and work towards your eligibility for credentialing. The Wound Care Nurse (WCN) is accountable for assuring the provision of quality wound care to all wound clinic patients and providing services to two hospitals. The WCN ensures that the patients’ physical and psychosocial needs are met in the clinic and addressed for home care; all patients’ care is documented according to policy and that patients’ families are well informed of the patients’ status per Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). This position is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating quality patient care within his/her scope of practice. Provides direction to license and para/nonprofessional personnel to perform their duties in accordance with their level of expertise.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Has a major responsibility for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating quality patient care that is consistent with the established policies and procedures of the clinic. Competently evaluates and treats wounds of the following categories and underlying conditions affecting them: Venous, Arterial, Diabetic, Burns, Surgical, Neuropathic, Traumatic, Bacterial, Viral and Fungal. Is knowledgeable of the age specific attributes of the patients presenting for care. Stays current with accepted “standards of care” in the field of wound care treatment. Responsible to educate staff on up-to-date wound care modalities and wound care algorithms. Adequately assesses and reassesses pain. Utilizes appropriate pain management techniques. Educates the patient and family regarding pain management. Is responsible for the education of patients, family members, significant others, and all health care team members as allowable under (HIPAA). Is primarily responsible for coordinating a quality discharge plan with assigned patients and their families/significant others in collaboration with the primary physician, wound care staff and other health care professionals. Makes independent wound care decisions within his/her scope of practice (as described by licensure and/or hospital policy) relating to patient care and performing other duties and functions that include, but are not limited to those described. Utilizes effective human relations and communication skills when interfacing with physicians, practitioners, patient’s/families/significant others and takes positive action to resolve patient care problems. Promotes excellence in customer/quest/staff/professional relations. Maintains patient confidentiality. Administrative Tasks: Participates in the interview process and makes recommendations for hire. Ensures that all personnel hired for wound care of patients are qualified and trained in their respective areas. Develops and modifies wound care staff job descriptions as needed and/or directed by the central administrator. Supervises orientation and training of all new wound care employees. Maintains schedule for wound care therapists and wound care associate personnel to ensure adequate coverage at all times. Works collaboratively with the hospital’s purchasing program to supply the center for optimal operation. Assists with and makes recommendations for the maintenance of the Center’s wound care reference library. Assists in the development and implementation of a comprehensive marketing plan. Conduct reflects the mission, vision and guiding principles of Mountain View Hospital and the Advance Wound Care and Hyperbaric Center. Agrees to abide by HIPPA Regulations. On a regular and recurring basis assigns day-to-day work to others, checks their work, eliminates ordinary work difficulties they may encounter, maintains their work flow, and determines method in which work is performed. Provides work leadership to Wound Care Technician and other Wound Care Nurses.
