Registered Nurse - Med/Surg - Casual
Summary Under the direction of, and in collaboration with unit management, performs responsibilities exercising initiative, judgment and independent decision-making within the scope of the State Nurse Practice Act, hospital policy and other governing organizations. Utilizes the nursing process (assessment, planning, intervention, evaluation) in a systematic approach to the direct and indirect care of patients and their families. Job Duties + Provide quality care in multiple settings: Pediatrics, Medical, Surgical (inpatient/outpatient), Emergency, Senior Care, Nursery, Chemotherapy, and Ambulance Transport as needed/delegated. + Maintains certifications in all areas within the scope of practice + Supervision of LPNs, Nursing Assistants, and Health Unit Coordinators as needed. + Effectively utilize nursing process: Demonstrates effective interviewing and assessment skills and integrates new or current techniques to obtain physical/psychosocial information from the patient/family to plan, implement, and evaluate patient care through the nursing process. Initiates and maintains patient care plans to reflect current patient needs utilizing computerized documentation. + Customer Service: Respects the privacy and dignity of every customer, internal or external. Is courteous and friendly, uses a quiet, respectful tone of voice when speaking with customers. Follows hospital policies regarding confidential or sensitive information; is Sensitive to cultural differences. + Initiative: Completes duties assigned without hesitation and in a timely manner; accepts direction well, is highly productive; works independently as position requires; accepts constructive criticism; demonstrates good time management skills; demonstrates a willingness to train new staff. + Teamwork: Welcomes/mentors newcomers; treats fellow employees with respect; cooperates with coworkers; actively participates in team discussions; does not chastise or embarrass fellow employees in the presence of others; offers encouragement to others praises when possible; supports the organizational change and allows every opportunity for change to succeed. + Communications: Ensures all policies and procedures are followed 100% of the time which contributes to a safe and supportive work environment. Identifies needs, instructs others, and actively supports the role of patient advocate/liaison by communication and documentation of patient information to the proper resources/agencies. Proper computerized documentation will be maintained at all times. This includes, but is not limited to admission, discharge, medication administration, teaching, activities of daily living and accurate intake/output. Required Education and Experience + Graduate from an accredited school of nursing with current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Minnesota. + Must successfully complete a criminal background check as required by the State of Minnesota. + Certifications: Basic Life Support. + All new RN's within the first year will receive in-house trauma training that meets the educational objectives of the state trauma system unless the RN has previously taken TNCC, CALS, ATCN, CATN, or TCAR. Preferred Education and Experience + Certifications: ACLS, TNCC or CALS, NRP, PALS
