Periop-101/Transition to Practice OR Nurse Signature Healthcare’s Brockton Hospital is hiring Full time Registered Nurse (RN)’s for a Periop-101/Transition to Practice program in the Operating Room . The Operating Room and Ambulatory Surgery Unit: The Main Operating Room and Ambulatory Surgery Unit at Brockton Hospital are crucial units that span patient care from Pediatrics to Geriatrics. Our 7 Main OR rooms and 2 ambulatory surgery OR rooms facilitate an annual average of 3,800 procedures across many service lines, including General, Hand, Ortho, Plastics, General, Vascular, GYN, Thoracic, Urology, ENT and Podiatry. The OR nurses play vital roles in pre-op duties and intra-operative nursing care. The array of skills and conditions treated make our operating room units a dynamic and essential component of patient care. Periop-101 at Brockton Hospital Transition to Perioperative Nursing: This is a comprehensive operating room training program that will consist of a 5–6-month orientation. During the first 3 months of the program, the staff member will receive training in perioperative nursing using evidence-based learning modules (AORN Periop-101), classroom/group learning, simulation and clinical experiences. During this 3-month period the work hours will be 07:00-15:30 (40 hours weekly). The staff members must take and pass the Periop-101 final exam towards the end of this 3-month period. Enrolled staff will learn numerous surgical specialties including general, orthopedics, gynecology, urology, thoracic, vascular, spine, bariatric, ENT, and plastic surgery. At the end of the 5-6 orientation the staff meber will be required to fulfill call requirements with a 30-minute response time. Registered Nurse (RN) Roles and Responsibilities: Specific Duties: + The Nurse will complete the Preadmission Assessment by interviewing patients, reviewing medications while ensuring all necessary paperwork and diagnostic information is complete, including possible lab work, EKG, and chest x-ray . + Assesses patient status on admission to the operating room. + Provides safe, therapeutic quality care to patients by utilizing the nursing process and nursing diagnosis in a timely manner and by setting appropriate priorities. Coordinates nursing interventions to enhance achievement of expected outcomes and to ensure readiness for discharge. Documents interventions and patient’s responses. + Ensures provision of patient care in an organized and timely manner. + Utilizes nursing care standards when planning and implementing patient care. + Communicates appropriate information about patient conditions to those who need it, including surgeons, anesthesia, management and other staff. + Safely carries out physician’s orders correctly and promptly, documenting all activities. + Takes part in pre and post-op phone calls and communicates any problems to the appropriate person. + Maintains competencies to function in RN role within specific area. General Duties: + Assessment: collects relevant patient health data (age-specific pertinent to specialty area). + Diagnosis: analyzes the assessment data in determining nursing diagnoses. + Outcome identification: identifies individualized, expected outcomes for patient. + Planning/Implementation develops and implements Plan of Care that prescribes interventions to attain expected outcomes. + Evaluation: evaluates and documents the patient’s progress toward attaining expected outcomes in the patient’s medical record. + Provide nursing care to assigned patients. + Administers prescribed medication and intravenous solutions in a safe manner. + Reports significant alterations in patient’s condition to physician. + Counsels, educates, and includes patients and their families in accordance with the plan of care. + Assists patients and family in coping with stress accompanying illness; offering solace and support to the dying. + Quality of Care systematically evaluates the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice. + Individual Practice Evaluation: reflects knowledge of current professional practice standards, laws, regulations, and changes in health care delivery, in daily practice. + Education: acquires and maintains current knowledge and competency in the care of patients. + Collegiality: interacts with and contributes to the professional development of peers and other healthcare providers as colleagues. + Ethics: decisions and actions on behalf of patients are determined in an ethical manner. + Collaboration: collaborates with the team, consisting of patient, family, and healthcare providers, in providing patient care in a healing, humane, and caring environment. + Research: uses clinical inquiry in practice + Resource Utilization: considers factors related to safety, effectiveness and cost in planning and delivering patient care.
