As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will:
Coordinates transplant activities for a select population of the Leukemia/Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) clients/donors as determined by the Hematology/BMT Clinical Practice Unit (CPU).Be responsibile for providing direct patient care such as initiating transplant workup for clients/donors in collaboration with team members, coordinating diagnostics in preparation for transition to the healthcare facility for transplant, interviewing and assessing clients, and developing individualized care plans.Communicate regularly with clients/donors along the continuum of the transplant process including providing education to clients and their families, and ensuring clients receive all requisite education regarding their upcoming transplant.Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members, physicians and other healthcare professionals at VCH and other organizations such as the BC Cancer Agency.
QualificationsEducation & Experience
Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).Two (2) years’ experience in a Leukemia/BMT Program.Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Broad knowledge of nursing theory and practice within a client and family centred care model.Broad knowledge of BCCNM standards of practice and guidelines for clinical practitioners.Broad knowledge of evidence-based nursing practice related to Hematology/Leukemia/BMT techniques and standards.Broad knowledge of other healthcare disciplines and their role in client care.Broad knowledge of adult education principles, methods and tools.Demonstrated ability to problem solve using critical thinkingDemonstrated ability to provide leadership and delegate appropriate tasks.Demonstrated ability to teach.Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively as a member of a multidisciplinary team.Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate.Demonstrated ability to effectively deal with conflict.Demonstrated ability to adjust to new or unexpected events.Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, prioritize, and re-prioritize work in collaboration with others.Demonstrated skill in the use of medical equipment and supplies appropriate to designated clinical area.Demonstrated skill in CPR techniques.Demonstrated computer literacy to operate a computerized patient care information system.Demonstrated physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
