Registered Nurse (RN) - Coord Magnet Program 0.9

Strongly prefer candidates with involvement in Shared/Professional Governance and Hospital Based Committees.

This role will be heavily involved in the Magnet re-designation process.

Major Responsibilities:

Provides leadership in the planning, developing, implementing and evaluation of Magnet initiatives related to nursing practice.    1)Assists with the organization, coordination, and administration of the Magnet Recognition Program for the Nursing Division to support the practice of nursing and the delivery of patient care through all phases of designation and redesignation.    2)Directs and implements processes to assure compliance with ANCC Magnet designation criteria.    3)Assists with the completion of the Magnet application every four years.    4)Utilizes in-depth assessment and analysis to determine organizational readiness for Magnet designation.    5)Works closely with clinical departments and nursing leadership to close identified gaps in systems and processes.    6)Utilizes knowledge, research, best practice and thorough understanding of Magnet components to develop integrated organizational interventions.    7)Consistently evaluates success of interventions and makes appropriate adjustments without jeopardizing Magnet designation.    8)Identifies and utilizes appropriate resources, serves on committees/Councils to promote efficiency and effectiveness.    9)Develops and facilitates patient care programs for the purpose of improving patient outcomes. Establishes mechanisms and processes to ensure timely collection of accurate data.    10)Organizes supporting documentation and identifies evidence and exhibits to verify documentation. Provides an environment of motivation and commitment to Magnet designation through celebration, continuous communication and education on the Magnet requirements. Designs, implements and/or evaluates re-education needs related to Magnet. Applies principles of adult education and learning theories when developing and implementing the instructional process. Coordinates NDNQI data collection, submission and dissemination of data. Prepares, revises and maintains compliance documentation materials for the Magnet Interim Report. Prepares an annual budget for anticipated expenses related to the Magnet project.Provides leadership to Magnet initiatives and serves on hospital committees/councils.    1)Provides leadership and direction for the Nursing Division in meeting and exceeding selected standards of nursing excellence.    2)Consults with the Directors of patient care areas, nurse managers, unit education coordinators and Advanced Practice Nurses (APNs) for Magnet and nursing processes.    3)Collaborates with the nursing directors to identify clinical activities to facilitate the professional growth of staff.    4)Participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of standards of nursing practice on a house-wide basis.    5)Serves as a clinical resource for nursing staff and directors.    6)Serves as a professional role model and resource for professional and non-professional staff.    7)Demonstrates behaviors consistent with participation in shared leadership. Demonstrates project management skills. Demonstrates creative problem solving skills.    8)Serves as a chair or leader on special projects and/or hospital councils/committees.    9)Serves as a chair or leader on Advocate special projects and/or system councils/committees.Responsible for assuring implementation of process improvement efforts related to the Magnet Program.    3)Actively participates in communicating and preparing associates for managing change, including gathering input from those affected before the change.    4)Understands and effectively applies change management process in implementing changes within the department or organization.    5)Participates in pilot studies to evaluate innovative processes.    1)Demonstrates creativity, innovation, appropriate risk-taking and effective application of decision making and change management principles.    2)Adapts to new and changing work environment and roles and also assists associates in adapting to change.Practices open communication to insure understanding and support of the Magnet Recognition program.    1)Maintains current knowledge and understanding of Magnet standards and communicates pertinent information to nursing leaders.    2)Acts as liaison between the Nursing Division and the Magnet ANCC office.    3)Clearly communicates expectations for document preparation, including structure, format, content, organization, and the timeline.    4)Demonstrates appropriate communication skills in interacting with associates and customers and promotes a spirit of teamwork within the organization.    5)Utilizes and role models effective communication techniques to deliver timely information.    6)Uses appropriate channels for communication.    7)Values differences of perspective, opinions, and approaches and encourages others to do the same.    8)Submits applications for recognition to external agencies.    9)Appropriately addresses controversial issues in the organization's best interest. Sets clear guidelines and expectations for staff. Establishes effective interpersonal relationships with all members of the organization. Shares knowledge and skills with colleagues and others, and acts as a role model and mentor. Participates in formal and informal Magnet mentoring activities.Develops self through education and consultation.    1)Takes responsibility for personal professional development; seeks opportunities that foster professional growth.    2)Augments own knowledge by attending formal and/or informal educational activities.    3)Engages in research and other scholarly activities.    4)Obtains and/or maintains professional certification.    5)Maintains professional memberships.Supports Nursing Research throughout the organization in support of the Magnet Recognition program.    1)Serves as a mentor and role model for research activities.    2)Engages in nursing research.    3)Insures that research projects support the Magnet Recognition program.


Licensure:

Nurse, Registered (RN)


Education/Experience Required:

-BSN -3 - 5 years clinical experience


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

-Strong interpersonal relationship -Strong communication skills -Strong problem-solving skills -Clinical experience in one or more areas of accountability -Self-management skills which enable results in a competitive and mature market -Demonstrated management and leadership skills in a specialized professional field-Current RN license in the State of Illinois
