Registered Nurse (RN) Lactation Consultant (Evening)

The Registered Nurse Inpatient Lactation Consultant is responsible for providing safe, family-centered patient care by assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating lactation plans for the breastfeeding/chest-feeding dyad, as well as for the pumping parent, and is fully collaborative with the patient, patient’s family, significant others, and members of the health care team. Demonstrates specialized knowledge and clinical expertise in breastfeeding/chest-feeding and human lactation. Functions within the scope of practice as defined by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBLCE) and follows standards of practice as defined by the International Lactation Consultant Association, and adheres to policies, procedures, and guidelines of care.

Schedule: 11pm-11am 3x week
 

Duties and Responsibilities
•Coordinates and manages care for patients, including those with complex needs. Provides lactation assessment, management, education and instruction.
•Evaluates patient's response to care and initiates independent and/or collaborative changes where appropriate.
•Performs consultations, rental or sale of lactation equipment and supplies, telephone triage, and prenatal education as appropriate.
•Offers post-delivery consultative care to patients: breastfeeding/chestfeeding, family bonding and planning, etc.
•Provides lactation support to all patients in sometimes very challenging clinical and psychosocial circumstances, which may include bereavement of baby or post trauma recovery.
•Serves as an advocate for the patient at all times, communicating effectively with patients, families, physicians, and coworkers, .
•Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Required Experience:  A minimum of two years of Registered Nurse clinical experience in the acute care setting. Minimum Education Requirement: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)  If RN has an Associate’s Degree (ADN); must complete BSN within 5 years of start date. Minimum Licensure/ Certification Requirement: Certification as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant Certification (IBCLC) within one year of hire  Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Virginia or hold a privilege to practice in the State of Virginia under the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC). Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification from the American Heart Association required upon start
