Unit Description: Oncology

The Oncology/Medical unit has 21 private rooms and 2 semi-private rooms. We care for patients requiring oncologic care, acute medical care, and those who require supportive care for end-of-life symptom management. The unit facilitates the inpatient hospice program and works closely with the organizations palliative care team. We have a positive unit culture with a teamwork atmosphere.

Position Summary: RN – Oncology

The Registered Nurse is accountable for management and delivery of patient care to assigned patients in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team, and within the scope of practice delineated in the New York State Nurse Practice Act.

RN Oncology Responsibilities:

Provides direct patient care Delegates/assigns responsibility as appropriate to others Serves as leader of the interdisciplinary team in collaboration with and under the direction of the attending physician. Focuses on completion of the nursing process including patient/family education and discharge planning. Understands and acts appropriately to ensure optimum use of all resources.

RN Oncology Qualifications:

One year of medical-surgical or acute care/hospital nursing experience required.

RN Oncology Education:

Bachelor's degree in Nursing is preferred; new hires will be required to complete their BSN within 5 years of hire. Graduation from a Registered Professional Nursing Program
