Registered Nurse (RN)-  Pre-op/PACU- Ambulatory Surgery Center

We are offering up to a $15,000 Sign-On Bonus!!!

General Summary:

This role is considered the minimum role for all nurses who have greater than 12 months experience. Provides and coordinates independent care to patients within a clinical specialty as a fully effective and participative member of the multidisciplinary patient care services team.  Utilizes the institution’s care delivery and professional practice models as the frame of reference for practicing as a professional nurse.  Participates in activities to develop own practice, and to support group practice goals at the unit level.  Is accountable to patient, family and team members for care provided and to the nurse manager for totality of work performance. Is accountable to hold to the Service Standards and to the Nursing Mission, Vision and Values.

Clinical Practice:
1. Competency in care of unit specific patient population; independently practices with solid knowledge and clinical skills; engaged in advancing own practice.
2. Serves as a clinical resource for others.
3. Applies and integrates evidence into practice
4. Functions effectively in roles specific to unit, such as arrest team for ICU, triage for ED, etc.
5. Collaborates with interdisciplinary team to plan and coordinate care; independently advocating for patient/family needs
6. Models practice consistent with unit operations to ensure safe, timely effective, efficient, equitable, patient centered care.

Professional Development:
1. Engaged in advancing own practice.
2. Responsible for maintaining competencies required for that patient care setting; focus on advancing own professional development.
3. Attends unit based staff development independently.
4. Demonstrates the ability to serve as a trained preceptor and coach’s new nurse and students.
5. Contributes to developing/evaluating unit based orientation and other education activities.
6. Contributes to nursing support personnel skills and development.
7. Completes CE’s on an annual basis based on facility minimum requirements.

Service/Quality:

1. Understands and contributes to unit-based outcomes associated with National Hospital Quality Measures (NDNQI), Nursing Sensitive Quality Indicators, and Facility Annual Operational Plan.
2. Contributes to and endorses some or all elements of research/EBP/QI.
3. Provides high quality, safe, patient centered care with focus on exceeding service expectations.
4. Accountable for compliance with regulatory requirements and holds others accountable; participates in tracer activities when requested.

Patient Safety:
1. Takes action to correct observed risks to patient safety.
2. Reports adverse events and near misses to appropriate management authority.
3. Implements policies, procedures, and guidelines consistently in the performance of assigned duties.
4. Develops effective working relationships and maintains good communication with other team members.
5. Identifies possible risks in processes, procedures, devices and communicates the same to those in charge.
6. Participates in hospital, departmental and/or unit patient safety initiatives.

Operations:
1. Demonstrates the ability to function in the charge nurse role.
2. Participates in teambuilding efforts on their unit.
3. Contributes to briefings/staff meetings regularly.
4. Contributes and participates in unit, Nursing Division, and organizational governance structure.
5. Participates in recruitment and retention activities at the unit level.
6. Provides feedback in peer review as requested. Provides direct performance feedback at the direction of the nurse manager.

Qualifications

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Education & Training:  Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, Bachelors preferred.  Currently licensed as an RN in the State of Maryland.  BLS and ACLS required, PALS required for PACU and Pre-Op nurses within six months of hire. Additional certification and/or training as determined by department per job task list.

Work Orientation & Experience: Orientation based on experience level and determined by unit. 

Skills & Abilities:  Ability to:  a) convey effective verbal and written communications; b) utilize basic assessment and critical thinking skills; c) organize and manage time effectively setting appropriate priorities; d) make independent decisions consistent with current policies, procedures and nursing standards; e) successfully complete standardized dosage exam; f) adapt hours of availability to variable and changing needs of the hospital, including all shifts; g) effectively function as a member of a collaborative team; h) respond to emergency situations appropriately, and i) adhere to standards of behavior and support Culture of Excellence.

 

Additional Information

Unit Specifics:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES, TASKS and RESPONSIBILITIES

•Proactively participates as a team member in support of the total post-anesthesia care process

•Using two patient identifiers, identifies and validates the patient and procedure performed

•Works collaboratively with the healthcare team to prepare the recovery room/PACU area according to requirements

of patient, physician orders, and patient procedure

•Provides comfort and reassurance to patient

•Demonstrates ongoing competencies with patient assessment and appropriate interventions when variances occur

•Maintains patient’s privacy and dignity

•Utilize the nursing process to perform safe and individualized nursing care, in the immediate post-anesthesia period

•Administers medication(s) per order of physician

•Accurately comprehends and interprets physician orders and direction

•Works collaboratively with the healthcare team to ensure continuity of patient care

•Monitors patient condition and maintains accurate documentation during post-anesthesia period

•Monitors and reports any abnormal observed complications to the anesthesia provider and physician

•Documents patient-care records and other forms accurately, legibly and in a timely manner, following policies and

procedures

•Develops a plan of care, based on patient needs, related to the procedure and type of anesthesia

•Assesses the physical and emotional status of the patient in preparation for discharge

•Reviews post-procedure instructions including medication reconciliation and follow-up physician appointment with patient and responsible adult

•Determines and documents patient and responsible adult understanding of the discharge instructions and indications

for seeking emergent care

•Organizes time, equipment, supplies, and personnel to provide effective and efficient case management

•Organizes nursing activities efficiently and effectively

•Assists or supervises patients attire change (as necessary)

•Considers cost containment by using supplies economically and by managing efficient turnover time

•Assists with supplies, drugs, and equipment inventories to maintain stock level and availability;  maintains order and cleanliness of recovery room/PACU area

•Transports patients as needed, observing policies, procedures, and safety requirements

•Performs other miscellaneous duties as assigned

Compensation:

Pay Range: $34.64-$67.04
Other Compensation (if applicable): up to a $15,000 Sign on Bonus
