Using evidence-based practice, clinical decision making, compassion and highly skilled communication techniques, the RESCUE Registered Nurse is a highly specialized RN who provides support and direct nursing interventions during high acuity situations. This team member's main purpose is to improve the experience of critically ill patients throughout the different clinical areas, establishing optimal levels of care and improved outcomes.
This team member serves as an expert resource for unit staff with regards to Code Blue (including intubations), Rapid Responses, Massive Transfusion Protocol and other critical events.
The RESCUE Registered Nurse makes independent decisions/judgments and takes actions regarding a wide range of routine and complex patient problems and situations. The RESCUE Nurse collaborates with unit leadership in managing acute patient care events and situations. The RESCUE Nurse integrates into the ICU staffing team and/or takes patient assignments in the ICU as needed. This team member partners with the various clinical teams to provide the
necessary interventions to ensure the best patient outcomes and best patient experience in the safest environment.
Respond to all unplanned clinical events and potentially critical situations from the different clinical areas. Provide an expert initial assessment of any patient meeting the criteria for calling the critical care team.Participates in unit or organizational shared governance and leadershipPromotes and supports growth of others through precepting and mentoring when appropriateParticipate in the audit and evaluation of the RESCUE team (e.g. Code Blue audits, RRT audits, Sepsis RRT audits, etc.) Assist in disseminating the results of such work throughout the different clinical areas and appropriate councils/committees.Creatively uses knowledge, resources, and technology to transform care for the diverse patient populationPosition Requirements:
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with Current IL RN licenseBachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)Current BLS, ACLS and PALS (preferred)Must have at least 3 years of current critical care nursing experienceCertification of CCRN requiredExcellent communication skillsExcellent computer skillsExcellent time management and organizational skillsFamiliarity with patient care equipmentAbility to work weekends, holidays, and different shifts in order to accommodate staffingAbility to transport objects, patients, and equipmentAbility to respond quickly to patient needs and work at fast paceWork environment includes probability of exposure to adverse, hazardous, or unpleasant conditions while caring for the sickAbility to assist in evacuation of patients in the event of a fire or other disasterRoutinely works with potentially infectious specimens and patientsAbility to respond to patients in a timely manner and access all areas of the unitAbility to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
