Registered Nurse (RN) - Service Line Coordinator - Spine - Full Time

Position Overview:
The staff nurse utilizes the nursing process for patient care in spine specialties supported by Montrose Regional Hospital. Specialized knowledge and skills for direct patient care, teaching patients or staff, and evaluating clinical performance of other perioperative staff. Acts as a resource within the department to all staff. Must be able to circulate any other services as.
Essential Functions :
General:
· Uses acceptable standards of practice based on nursing process care to provide the
· individual/family/group with identified perioperative needs.
· Coordinates care of the individual/family/group based on AORN Standards of Care.
· Promotes a climate in which consumers well being is recognized at a time when they are unable to do so themselves.
· Used the nursing process to provide age appropriate individual/family/guardian education activities to promote a successful perioperative outcome.
· Works to achieve desired health care outcome by effectively utilizing human and material resources.
· Is accountable for ethical, legal, and professional responsibilities related to nursing within the scope of practice.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
Specific:
· Circulator Duties: During the pre-, intra- and post-op phase, the circulating registered nurse: coordinates the activities of the room, assembles necessary equipment, delegates activities to other team members, implements the nursing process and care plan, serves as the patient advocate, assures a safe environment for the patient, completes documentation accurately, completes a correct sponge, needle and instrument count, informs PACU of special needs.
· Communicate with caregivers across the continuum of patient flow any changes in patient status and care expectations
· Assist with scheduling issues involving ancillary departments i.e. radiology, lab social services.
· Perform as a liaison between staff, physicians, management, educators, and patient to promote quality patient care and good customer service.
· Perform as a resource person to staff, physicians, and patients to provide excellent patient care.
· Keep current on procedures, equipment, and trends in your specialty line.
· Coordinate with unit based educators to develop and maintain orientation plan for new employees and arrange inservices for ongoing specialty education on new issues for all staff.
· Communicate changes in service line to staff, etc. through report times both verbally and with "hands on" demonstrations.
· Monitor scheduled patient admissions and cases for the specialty line for at least one to two upcoming days to identify potential problems with personnel and or equipment.
· Collaborate with materials management, central services, and other departments as appropriate to assure any needed supplies, equipment, and instrumentation are available.
· Assist with the triage of patients to the appropriate line of care.
· Make the service "user friendly" by use of effective communication and maintaining physician preference cards.
· Participate in making daily assignments.
· Actively participate in the Clinical Improvement Team process.
· Participate in Quality Improvement monitoring and reporting.
· Participate in approved research projects for the service line.
· Provide input to Clinical Director regarding any needs for the budgeting process.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
Physical Demands: Ability to lift twenty (20) pounds. Moving, lifting or transferring of patients may involve lifting of up to fifty (50) pounds, as well as assist with weights of more than one-hundred (100) pounds. Ability to stand for extended periods. Fine motor skills. Visual acuity.
Qualifications & Skills:
Education:
Graduation from an accredited nursing program with a Degree in Nursing
High school diploma or equivalent. C urrent Colorado State Surgical Technologist license required.
Experience:
· Experience is preferred.
o Orientation is based on previous knowledge and experience. Additional education/training in related field is considered on an individual basis.
· Certification in OR nursing preferred, CNOR.
· Active membership in professional organization (AORN) is highly recommended.
· BCLS required upon hire.
· ACLS.
· Must be licensed in the State of Colorado
