As a Registered Nurse in Oncology with VCH you will:
Provide symptoms management support for patients undergoing various cancer treatments.
Enhance quality of life from the patient’s and family’s perspective.
Perform a variety of related health care interventions and advise on various methods for managing the disease, its treatments and the related side effects of each.
Consult/confer and collaborate with other health care providers and participate on designated hospital committees/team and approved research projects as assigned.
QualificationsEducation & Experience
Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).Completion of a recognized advanced program in oncology nursing plus three (3) years recent experience in Oncology or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.Chemotherapy certification and certification in central venous catheters.Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Broad knowledge of nursing theory and practice within a patient/family centred model of care.Broad knowledge of BCCNM standards of practice for registered nurses.Thorough knowledge of the indications, actions, reactions, routes, dosages, and side effects of drugs used in a Chemotherapy environment.Thorough knowledge of nursing problems commonly encountered in an oncology environment.Thorough knowledge of the physiological and behavioural aspects of cancer illnesses.Knowledge of other health care disciplines and their role in patient care.Demonstrated ability in nursing practice to assess and manage oncology care.Demonstrated ability to respond immediately and appropriately to sudden emergencies.Demonstrated ability to act as a self starter and to plan, organize and prioritize work.Demonstrated ability to plan and implement plans of care.Demonstrated ability to communicate with, and deal effectively with, patients and their families, co-workers, physicians, and other health care staff.Demonstrated ability to communicate in writing accurately, concisely and clearly with attention to detail.Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary team.Demonstrated ability to teach patients and their families.Demonstrated ability to provide leadership and work direction.Demonstrated physical ability to perform the duties of the position.Demonstrated skill in CPR techniquesSkill in techniques appropriate to cancer care nursing.Skill in the use of monitoring and support equipment.Demonstrated computer literacy with applicable email, word processing, spreadsheet, database and presentation software as well as the ability to operate a computerized patient care information system.
