Registered Nurse Telemetry/Medical-Surgical Observation

Scheduled Hours: 7P-7A; 12 hour shifts 

Job Summary:

Using evidence-based practice, clinical decision making, compassion and skilled dialogue, the registered nurse leads efforts to create the safest patient environment and the best patient experience. The nurse delivers and coordinates patient-centered care across the continuum to support the successful transition of patients to other healthcare delivery systems or their home communities. The registered nurse is responsible for providing and coordinating comprehensive patient care through the appropriate utilization of assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation, in accordance with established standards, policies and procedures.

This 14 bed unit provides care for a diverse patient population with wide ranging medical-surgical, telemetry, and trauma needs. The objective of this fast-paced unit is to manage patient care collaboratively across the professional spectrum. The nurses on the Critical Decision Unit work with a high degree of autonomy with observation patients to aid the interdisciplinary team in making informed decisions regarding admissions, discharges, and patient needs. They also care for complex medical-surgical inpatients with a variety of diagnosis while they recover. Professional growth experience include, working in a Magnet environment, a shared governance management style allowing staff participation in the decision making process at the unit level, hospital and/or corporate level, and nursing leadership advancement opportunities within a large healthcare corporation. 


Position Requirements:

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with Current IL RN licenseBSN requiredExperienced RN: Minimum of 1 year current nursing experience on a med surge unit. New Graduate RN: Must have Illinois nursing license verifiable through the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR.com) or have your “official pass letter” indicating you may practice under supervision for a period of 3 months from your pass date by start date.Current AHA CPR.Ability to work weekends, holidays, and different shifts in order to accommodate staffingCertain positions may need to take callWork environment includes probability of exposure to adverse, hazardous, or unpleasant conditions while caring for the sickAbility to assist in evacuation of patients in the event of a fire or other disasterRoutinely works with potentially infectious specimens and patientsAbility to respond to patients in a timely manner and access all areas of the unitAbility to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other team member, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
