Registered Nurse Team Lead - Full Time - days - Acute Care 2W

Position Details: Full Time - Days - 40 hours per week - Corning Hospital acute care 2 West

Position Summary:

The Nursing Team Leader/Charge Nurse is responsible for promoting safe and effective patient care and maintaining the highest clinical standards.  Under the guidance and direction of the DON, the Nursing Team Leader/Charge Nurse is responsible for the nursing care of patients and the assignment of nursing staff. He/she assists with the orientation and teaching of new employees to their nursing specialty.  The team leader keeps the nursing management informed of all activities of assigned services and seeks guidance as needed.  The team nursing leader supports Nursing Management in carrying out unit objectives.  The team leader meets required population specific competencies.

Reports to: Director of Inpatient Services & 2E/2W Assistant Managers

Qualifications:

Graduate of approved nursing school. Licensed as a Registered Nurse in NYS. BSN preferred. Certification in the area of specialty is required within two (2) years of entering the position. Two (2) years’ experience in defined clinical area. Demonstrated leadership abilities and teaching skills.

Special Requirements:

2E-PALS certification; demonstrated competency in care of acute medical and pediatric patients. 2W - Proficient in Surgical Nursing/Joint Camp/Trauma Certification. Ability to make rapid decisions in dealing with a variety of circumstances. Satisfactory performance evaluation meeting standards of nursing practice for your specialty with documented progress towards identified goals. ACLS certification required within 1 year of starting the Team Lead role

Required competencies at end of orientation:

Completion of Med/Surg orientation checklist for Designated Team Leader.

Required competencies at the end of one year’s employment:

Further competencies will be designated as changes in technology and patient care requirements occur.

Essential Functions: (All functions of the Nursing Team Leader/Charge Nurse job description and Registered Nurse job description is required for this position.)

Professional role model and resource to staff and students: Maintains knowledge and expertise in clinical area. Fosters positive relationships with physicians and other members of the healthcare team. Promotes inter-shift and hand-off communication among staff members to achieve continuity of nursing care. Promotes and ensures the delivery of quality patient care through competency-based assignments and supervision of staff. Assumes support role in orientation and required competencies of staff. Responds to and assumes appropriate leadership/coaching role in emergency codes/situations. Assists Nursing Management with implementing appropriate review systems for competency-based assignments and supervision of staff. Assists with supply orders, and repairs, etc. to ensure the working continuity of the unit. Serves as a positive role model for patient satisfaction.

2. Participates in process/performance improvement activities:

Maintains collaborative relationships with all members of the healthcare team to maximize care and patient outcomes. Responsible for assigned activities in the hospital/unit performance improvement process. Serves on nursing committees.

3. Supports the philosophy and objectives of the organization:

Promotes organizational values and departmental vision and goals. Demonstrates appropriate problem solving and decision-making skills, referring staff to   appropriate resources as necessary. Develops leadership skills of staff and delegates responsibility as necessary. Promotes a healthy working environment through effective communication, conflict resolution, and staff empowerment. Demonstrates, and encourages others in, effective time management, flexibility, and priority setting. Serves as a customer service role model.

4. Demonstrates own professional development:

Demonstrates awareness of the need for self-growth by assessing strengths and weaknesses and establishing goals per annual evaluation. Develops own leadership skills by attendance at Leadership Development Classes, self-study, and in-services/conferences. Demonstrated effective time management, flexibility, and priority setting. BSN to be completed within five (5) years.

The pay for this position ranges from $36.05-$51.53 per hour + Team Lead diff
