A Polysomnographic Technician performs comprehensive polysomnographic testing and analysis and associated interventions under the general supervision of a Polysomnographic Technologist (RST) and/or the clinical director (MD, PhD, DO) or designee. A Polysomnographic Technician can provide supervision of a Polysomnographic Trainee.

QualificationsEducation:
High school education or equivalent required with an associates / bachelors in applied science, polysomnography, or respiratory therapy preferred.All staff must participate in an average of 10 hours per year, AMA PRA Category I CME or CEU sleep or related educational activities with a minimum of 30 per three calendar years.Must enroll in or have completed the A-Step Online Self Studies within 12 months of hire.OR Must be enrolled in or have completed training in polysomnography in a program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or a Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) program with the polysomnography option.
Licensure/Certification/Registry:
Respiratory Care Practitioner (CRT, RRT, CPFT, RPFT), registered nurse or licensed practice nurse (RN, LPN) with current Illinois license.
OR Successful completion of an accredited educational program leading to an associate degree with an emphasis in polysomnography OR successful completion of a polysomnography program of no less than one year duration associated with a state license and/or a nationally accredited educational facility or equivalent experience and documented proficiency at all competencies required of a polysomnographic technologist.
Registry completion preferred.Current BLS certification required.Experience:
1-3 years experience preferred but not required.
Other Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Working Conditions-Physical Requirements & Atmosphere:
Knowledge in comprehensive polysomnographic testing, analysis and associated interventions preferred.
Responsibilities Participates in scheduling of diagnostic/consultative/educational activities for Sleep Disorder Center patients as approved by the Manager of Pulmonary Lab/Sleep Disorders Center.Maintains necessary patient records and performs required billing procedures to assure the continued solvency of the Sleep Disorder Center.
Prepares for night-time/day-time polysomnography
Reduces polysomnographic data to a tubular form for interpretation.
Participates in meetings and monthly conferences by the Sleep Disorders Center staff. Obtains/maintains 10 CEU’s per year by attending programs with focus on sleep medicine.
Optional duty: Analyzes the polysomnographic recording and prepares detailed report of sleep stages, sleep architecture, limb movement, respiratory and cardiac events.
Maintains and documents personal skills and education to assure optimum performance of duties.
Participates in continuing education for non-Sleep Disorders Center professional, patients (or parents), students, and the public to facilitate the proper identification and treatment of patients of all ages with sleep disorders and proper use of Sleep Disorders Center facilities
Participates in Sleep Disorders Center related research activities as approved by the Medical Director and Manager of Pulmonary Lab.
Helps maintain required Sleep Disorders Center records including.Types of patient seen by major diagnostic categories.Types of diagnostic procedure performed.Results of various types of treatment efforts undertaken with Sleep Disorder Center Patients.
Maintains and calibrates testing equipment.
Participates in evaluation of needed equipment to recommend to the Manager of the
Pulmonary Lab.
Participates in the accreditation process.
Responsible for quality control measure.
Maintains current CPR or BCLS certification.
Performs all other duties as designated by the Sleep Disorders Center Medical Director, & Program Manager of Pulmonary/Sleep Lab.
Performs other related work as required or requested.
