POSITION PURPOSE The Pulmonary Rehab Respiratory Therapist (PRRT) works with patients who have chronic conditions or illnesses that lead to breathing difficulties. The duties of a Pulmonary Rehab Respiratory Therapist focus on planning and carrying out therapy for each patient in the Froedtert South AACVPR Certified Program. The PRRT provides rehabilitation services for patients who have asthma, emphysema, interstitial lung disease (ILD), idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The PRRT works with the Director of the Medical Director of Pulmonary Rehabilitation to plan a rehab program and monitor the patient’s cardiovascular and pulmonary function to ensure safety and measure function and recovery. The PRRT also educates patients on managing their condition and improving function. MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED Associate Degree in: Respiratory Therapy MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED 0 to 3 years LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED Licensure to be eligible to practice as a Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) in the State of Wisconsin. Current BLS and ACLS certification from the American Heart Association or the ability to obtain certification within 6 weeks of hire. Registered by the National Board for Respiratory Care or eligible to sit for the registry exam. Graduation from an accredited school of Respiratory Care. Registry Credential must be completed within 12 months of hire date. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED Ability to read, write, hear, speak, and comprehend the English language. PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES 1. Sets up, monitors, adjusts and manages patient in the pulmonary rehabilitation program.
2. Provides appropriate therapeutic application of oxygen for respiratory support.
3. Maintains appropriate documentation, both written and in EPIC, for all diagnostic and therapeutic services.
4. Receives and records verbal orders from licensed independent practitioners for orders that are specific to the services provided by their department.
5. Assists the patient in administerering medications in a timely manner, safely and in accordance with policy and procedure.
