Job SummaryThe Respiratory Therapist is responsible for providing basic and advanced Respiratory Care services to adult and geriatric patients.<br><br>

                         

Job DetailsReviews, collects, and evaluates relevant clinical data.Plans, implements, and evaluates the effectiveness of Respiratory Care.Performs both basic and advanced therapeutic procedures for adult, and geriatric patients.Provides respiratory care in CCU/PCU, CVSU, PICU, PACU and ER critical care areas per department orientation process standards.Formulates an appropriate respiratory care plan based upon patient assessment.Communicates and recommends changes in the respiratory care plan with other health care team members.Provides effective education to patients, students, and co-workers as appropriate.Performs both fundamental and advanced diagnostic procedures including arterial puncture, blood gas analysis, pulmonary functions, etc.Performs emergency and acute respiratory care procedures in accordance with the quality guidelines in the departmental policy and procedure manual.Actively participates in departmental quality assurance and hospital-wide organizational performance improvement activities.Maintains clinical and professional competence based upon established standards of practice.Assembles, checks, corrects malfunctions, and performs quality controls on respiratory care equipment.Adheres to the Respiratory Care Department's Professional Governance Plan.Follows hospital and department policies and procedures with special attention to attendance and punctuality, confidentiality, dress code and display of ID badge, and safety.Completes mandatory education and training in order to maintain organization and department specific competencies and requirements. Maintains applicable certification/licensure.Other duties as assigned


Education:

Associate's degree in Respiratory Care Technology required; bachelor's degree preferred.


Certifications:

RRT required OR must be obtained within one year of hire. BCLS certification by the AHA required. ACLS certification preferred. Active licensure by state licensing board required.


Complexity of Work:

Maintains competencies specific to patient population served.Outstanding clinical, communication, and interpersonal skills required. Ability to access all patient care areas required. Ability to successfully complete Respiratory Care competencies required.


Work Experience:

Previous clinical experience in Respiratory Care preferred. Minimally competent per department orientation process standards to work in CCU/PCU, CVSU, PICU, PACU and ER critical care areas.
