Registrar Laboratory

Position Summary

The Outreach Registrar is responsible for the entire process of registration and ordering of all patient specimens from the physician practices into the HIS and LIS with data supplied from the NextGen system and delivered via courier service. The registrar is also responsible for NextGen manifest tracking, following protocol for accurate logging of occurrence reports and reporting specimen inaccuracies. The registrar maintains and modifies the daily courier route. The registrar frequently interacts with the physician practices, CBO, Billing offices, physician clinical staff, clinical laboratory staff and pathology department.

Primary Position Responsibilities

1.

Registers all outreach patients into the HIS, ensuring the demographic and insurance information are correct per NextGen data.

2.

Orders all testing requested by the physician practices into the LIS, as well as labels/handles bio-hazardous material while following proper protocol.

3.

Monitors and modifies the daily courier run by using a GPS tracking system with contact of outreach clients and courier dispatch office to assure that couriers have delivered all specimens from client offices.

4.

Documents all discrepancies such as specimen type, labeling, etc., via appropriate Occurrence Report protocol.

5.

Contacts the physician’s office for additional information and clarification as required.

6.

Maintains a professional relationship when dealing with physician office staff, lab technical staff and/or patients.

7.

Reports to the Outreach Lead Registrar and performs duties delegated as needed and requested.

At least one year in a medical office or laboratory environment. At least on year of Customer Service Experience.

Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities:

Required:

Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Ability to perform general office skills and use  telephone, copier, fax machine. Proficient in medical terminology with excellent analytical problem-solving skills and critical thinking skills. Must have a strong customer service background and a team player who can work in a high stress environment with little supervision.
