Regulatory Affairs Consultant
Overview:

This position provides support to the range of activities of the Regulatory Relations function, which may include:                                                                                                                                                                                                    

•Supervisory Exam Management

•Regulatory Continuous Monitoring

•Regulatory Intelligence - Identification, Assessment, Communication and Control

•Identification and analysis of emerging regulatory developments and risks

•Analytics and Reporting of regulatory-related data

An essential requirement of this role is clear, concise, and timely communication with various stakeholders, including exam participants and senior leaders throughout the Bank. This includes regulatory and examination issues which may impact M&T Bank’s business model and strategy.

Primary Responsibilities:Maintain and enhance enterprise-wide protocols, policies and procedures concerning regulatory exams and intelligence monitoring.Efficiently communicate these requirements to designated parties throughout the organization and ensure business units are aware of these practices before and during their supervisory exams and regulatory compliance activities.Demonstrate an understanding of applicable compliance and regulatory requirements and effectively communicate such requirements to cross-functional partners throughout the organization (i.e., revenue businesses, support functions, risk management colleagues, etc.), as well as communicate effectively - through meetings and ad hoc requests.Identify and analyze the application of emerging supervisory guidance & regulatory requirements for impacts on operations and strategy.Communicate with business units regarding new regulations and coordinate upcoming exams by providing guidance on new and existingregulatory requirements.Create presentation materials and coordinate and conduct effective meetings with internal stakeholders and regulators.Ensure follow-up requests and post-exam remediation requirements are addressed in a timely and high-quality manner and coordinate post-exam correspondence to the regulatory agencies and ensure sufficient internal reporting and tracking of outstanding requests and remediation activity.Maintain and enhance the documented policies and procedures of Regulatory Affairs.Maintain internal control standards, including timely and thorough implementation of regulatory and internal audit requirementsParticipate in various ad hoc projects at a commensurate level of proficiency.Adhere to applicable compliance/operational risk controls in accordance with Company or regulatory standards and policies.Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brandMaintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.Complete other related duties as assigned.

Scope of Responsibilities:

This multi-discipline role includes maintaining and enhancing relationships with:

•Regulatory Affairs team members

•Third party service providers (as reflected in regulatory intelligence activities)

•Supervisory agency personnel (exam management and continuous monitoring)

•Diverse internal stakeholders and working groups

Collaboration serves as a critical element of this role, supporting a constructive working environment, effective communications, and positive outcomes. Further, this helps ensure consistency of regulatory messaging, promote a culture of regulatory awareness, and ensure compliance with critical regulatory requirements.

Education and Experience Required:

Bachelor’s degree plus minimum of five (5) years of relevant work experience or in lieu of a degree five (5) years combined education and relevant experience.

Demonstrated ability to coordinate and manage professional and effective meetings among bank regulators and M&T line of business

personnel.

Ability to effectively and efficiently understand existing and new bank industry regulations.

Demonstrated proficiency to communicate in a clear and concise professional manner (written and verbal), including translation of data into

customer-appropriate information and insights.

Strong organization and administrative skills.

Detail oriented.

Proficiency with MS Office, especially PowerPoint, Excel and Word.

Proven analytical skills.

Proven skills to discern relevancy of new regulations to M&T and align with business line(s).

Ability to work independently while also demonstrating collaboration among stakeholders.

Education and Experience Preferred:

MBA, CPA, or JD.

Experience in financial reporting, audit, legal or similar field.

Proven knowledge of M&T Bank business unit structure, associated products and services (and related internal personnel network).

Direct regulatory compliance experience.

Project management and advanced presentation skills.

Working knowledge of Archer Enterprise Governance, Risk & Compliance platform.

M&T Bank is committed to fair, competitive, and market-informed pay for our employees. The pay range for this position is $82,783.41 - $137,972.36 Annual (USD). The successful candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, and experience will inform their specific compensation.
