PRIMARY FUNCTION: Primarily responsible for assuring conformance to and providing guidance and support for regulatory compliance of FDA regulations through thorough understanding of government regulations and laws as they relate to food labeling, manufacture and quality. Assists the manager in researching and proactively developing and implementing plans to assure compliance to new/upcoming regulations. Performs all work in compliance with company policies and local, state and federal policies, laws and regulations.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS:
Independently assure regulatory compliance of relevant FDA regulations throughout the organization by:Accurately interpreting development of relevant regulatory changesProactively recommending avenues to implement new/revised regulations to ensure timely complianceWorking cross-functionally to develop, implement and maintain adequate systems/ controlsResearch and communicate upcoming changes to regulations in a timely and concise manner to relevant personnelResearch, determine and implement federal regulations and agency requirements to validate product label complianceManage activities associated with regulatory compliance for new products and well as FDA technical requests from internal and external customersDevelop and maintain Nutrition Fact Panel, ingredient statements and allergen declaration statements for labelsReview and approve information for all aspects of finished product labels (i.e. net weight, nutrition facts, ingredients statements, etc.)Ensure compliance with the Child Nutrition Labeling program requirements including obtaining labeling approvalReview packaging and ingredient information for food safety risk and other regulatory issuesPerform PLM (Optiva) system updates for new labels/productsUnderstand and apply global regulations to ensure compliance with exported labelsMentor and train others in overall regulatory processAssist and back up other corporate QA positions as needed and during absencesPerform other related duties as requiredSUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This is an individual contributor role. Competencies required: Functional/Technical Skill, Action Oriented, Problem Solving, Learning on the Fly and Interpersonal SavvyEDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS:
Bachelors’ degree in relevant science (i.e. Food Science, Nutritional Science, Chemistry, etc.)Equivalent of ten (10) years’ Regulatory Affairs experience within poultry/meat processing industry may be substituted for educationEXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
Minimum five (5) years’ demonstrated experience in food processing industry Regulatory Affairs; five (5) years poultry/ meat processing experience preferredDemonstrated technical knowledge revolving around product labeling, Nutrition Fact sheetsAdvanced knowledge of Microsoft applications (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)Strong customer focus, excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to communicate with all levels of the organization as well as with external regulatory agenciesMeticulous attention to detail, organizational and project management skills with ability to monitor/interpret regulatory informationSAFETY REQUIREMENTS:
Follow departmental and company safety policies and programsPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
