General Summary:
The Rehab Clinical Assistant works with the rehab clinicians (OT, PT, SLP and Audiologists) in the comprehensive care of patients with disorders diagnosed and treated by Rehab Services. Under supervision of the licensed clinician, the Rehab Clinical Assistant provides technical services required in the course of diagnostic evaluation and treatment of rehab patients. The position actively supports the Hospital’s and the department’s continuous quality improvement and customer service goals, individually and as an effective team member.
Essential Job Functions:
Assists the rehab clinician during patient diagnosis, assessment and treatment.
Independently prepares clinical environment for patients including but not limited to: ensuring availability of necessary equipment and materials for sessions and setting up/breaking down the patient care spaces.
Provides on call clinical support for inpatient procedures including delivering clinical supplies or educational materials for patient/family use and assisting with patients during procedures.
Maintains clinical supplies and educational tools. Inventories stock, orders and restocks as needed.
Accounts for the ordering, shipping, receiving and tracking of equipment as assigned.
Maintains physical environment of the department including toy closets, dirty/clean room, and treatment spaces.
Coordinates with VIP services for patient transport from inpatient floors and/or escorts patient from the outpatient waiting room to the appropriate patient care space.
Participates in team meetings; obtains needed audiovisual equipment, completes meeting documentation as required.
Organizes, labels, submits and tracks all paperwork necessary for medical records and billing.
Assists with patient scheduling and other clerical/POS duties as needed.
Assists with departmental projects as needed.
Updates own knowledge base through continuing education, attendance at in-services and reading of literature.
Performs job functions adhering to service principles with customer service focus of innovation, service excellence and teamwork to provide the highest quality care and service to our patients, families, co-workers and others.
Education and Experience:
High School Diploma required; college coursework preferred.
Prior experience working in a Rehab Services setting preferred.
Ability to operate a personal computer and standard office equipment, such as photocopy machine, facsimile machine, calculator, etc. Proficient with Microsoft applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access required.
Must be able to accept instruction and guidance and be capable of following a structured work routine. Ability to follow verbal and written directives with detail.
Must be able to learn and master the procedures and techniques necessary to assist with rehab procedures.
Effective and strong interpersonal skills and communication skills, verbal and in writing. Ability to effectively communicate with Hospital/department staff, patients, parents, and community personnel.
Strong organizational and critical thinking skills to effectively manage priorities of multiple team members. Strong planning and coordination skills.
Ability to provide high level of customer service to patients, department staff, management and external customers.
Ability to work independently and exercise good and professional judgment.
Bilingual skills preferred.
