Rehabilitation Technician & Scheduler
Major Responsibilities: Assists in the delivery of patient care: 5)Follows appropriate safety and infection control measures pertaining to patient care, equipment and the general working environment. Promptly reports any problems to immediate supervisor. 1)Assists in the maintenance of a clean, tidy and safe treatment area environments by assisting with daily tasks of cleaning, tidying up and checking of equipment/temperature logs. 2)Assist with direct patient care related activities and assists a licensed physical, occupational or speech therapist following demonstration of competency in each area, including preparation of: a. Hot pack treatments b. Cold pack treatments c. Exercise program materials d. Activity program materials e. Functional mobility training materials f. Activities of daily living materials g. Prepares items related to splint fabrication and braces. Establishes effective rapport with patients of all ages. Assists licensed therapists in providing group therapy services in PT, OT and/or ST. 3)Communicates with patients, team members and other professionals for the purpose of sharing information that will assist in achieving optimum care for the patient. 4)Notifies appropriate personnel of equipment malfunctions and follows through with appropriate repair procedures. Transport and Transfer of Patients 1)Routinely check the patient Armband for name and date of birth to verify correct patient. 2)Ensures the patient is transported from the nursing unit to therapy with all necessary items (i.e. oxygen, gait belt, bracing). 3)Ensures the privacy of the patient during transport--keeping voice to a low volume, limited conversation in public places about patient condition, etc. 4)Communicates with nursing staff regarding medical status of each patient prior to performing or assisting with transfers and communicates any changes to the therapist. 5)Accompanies the patient at all times and does not leave the patient until they are handed off to another associate. 6)Communicates potential patient problems, observations of change in patient behavior and patient needs to the therapist or other health care provider. Consistently offers to make the patient comfortable as possible by offering blankets, pillows, reading materials, etc. 7)Informs therapist of delays/cancelations and the reason. 8)Demonstrates safe body mechanics during functional mobility tasks (i.e. bed mobility, transfers) under the supervision of a licensed clinician and/or designated healthcare provider. Following demonstration of transfer training competency, responsible to perform transfers without assistance or supervision for minimal to independent patients and assists other healthcare providers with moderate to dependent level patients. Maintenance of inpatient schedules utilizing hospital and computer software 1)Receives all inpatient acute and rehab unit orders, via hospital computer system, and updates patient charts and staffing schedule to accommodate new patients or changes in existing patient cases. 2)Compares and verifies provided patient information with system patient information. Identifies whether the patient is new to our service or if orders are additional. 3)Communicates with therapist in a timely manner, to facilitate patient discharge, social work, nursing and physician needs. 4)Informs Acute and Rehab Coordinators or designee of new admissions and resume orders. 5)Distributes new patients to therapists according to established criteria. 6)Coordinates patient schedules around known tests, procedures, family training, home visits (rehab unit only), requests of other healthcare providers and patient needs. 7)Schedules special services (i.e. interpreters, sign language) when appropriate. 8)Reassigns and prioritizes patients due to staff shortages/absenteeism. 9)Rehab Unit: Tracks therapy minutes provided. Keeps coordinators and manger abreast of patients not meeting CMS requirements. 10)Acute Care: Utilized computer software to identify Therapy Cap Spend. Communicates findings with therapist and manager according to established processes. Performance of patient reception services in support of department activities: 1)Greets, acknowledges and assists patients and family members in a professional and welcoming manner. Appropriately converses with patients during transport (i.e. AIDET). 2)Answers phones, takes messages and/or redirects calls appropriately. 3)Assures patient and patient family members' confidential information is handled according to established guidelines, policies and procedures. 4)Promotes increased utilization of ACMC services by maintaining customer focused behavior and responses. 5)Assist in contacting and rescheduling patients in the case of a therapist call in or change of schedule. Contribute to a harmonious work environment and positive guest relations: 1)Fosters positive communications between all members of the department team. 2)Demonstrates knowledge of proper telephone function and proper telephone etiquette. 3)Acknowledges and respond to all internal and external customers who access the department. 4)Coordinates incoming and outgoing calls including recording and reporting of pages and messages. 5)Participates in Performance Improvement through monitoring indicators as assigned and attend department meetings and appropriate inservice education. 6)Complies with organization and department patient satisfaction initiatives. Routinely meets the needs and expectations of patient and families. 7)Performs job duties requested by coordinator/manager and completes all daily responsibilities. 8)Upholds polices and procedures of Advocate Health Care/ACMC; completes competencies in a timely manner. Education/Experience Required: High school education or equivalent. 2-3 years related experience required. Medical terminology strongly preferred. Previous computer experience is beneficial. This position will need to recognize needs and behaviors of a variety of age groups of patients treated, i.e. understand normal patterns of aging. Prior experience with various age groups is preferred. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required: Typing 20-30 words/minute Good communication skills. Proficiency with computer input, strong keyboard skills. Ability to function in a stressful environment with a high level of empathy, tact and poise. Knowledge of general office equipment. CPR Certification within 3 months of employment. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: Ability to rotate shifts to provide coverage. Willing to be called off based on unit demands. Exposure to various contagious diseases, radiation, hazards associated with their use. May be required to participate in community service programs such as Think First, Moving Mountains, adapted/wheelchair sporting events, community outreach, etc. If position has direct patient care or direct patient contact the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available.
