Reinsurance Legal Counsel - 2-5 years PQE - London

An exciting opportunity has come up for a mid-level lawyer looking to develop their career within a leading reinsurance brokerage. Guy Carpenter is seeking a Reinsurance Legal Counsel to work closely with the business and Guy Carpenter’s Legal & Compliance team on contentious, non-contentious, strategic, project and commercial matters. The role will be based in our London office and will provide advice and support on a wide range of issues to business areas within the UK, CE and IMEA region. You would need to be a proactive self-starter with the ability to quickly grasp the risks, issues and opportunities faced by the organisation.

We will count on you to:

Have excellent commercial acumen with an ability to deliver clear and pragmatic solutions and achieve an appropriate balance between Guy Carpenter’s commercial objectives and risk appetite.

Advise on legal issues as appropriate. Provide advice and support on matters including, but not limited to, contract and commercial negotiations, regulatory compliance, data protection, employment law, corporate projects, and dispute resolution.

Manage a dedicated caseload of contentious matters (both litigated and non-litigated) relating to the Guy Carpenter business.

Support the business’ innovation and manage risks of new products and services by escalating to senior team members as required. 

Take the initiative; identify issues that go beyond the specific project requested by internal clients. Take on projects important to the department or the internal clients and manage effectively to completion.

Be enthusiastic and keen to develop a long-term career in-house.

What you need to have:

UK Qualified lawyer, 2–5 years PQE with experience obtained in private practice or in-house at a (re)insurance company or brokerage.

Experience of both contentious and non-contentious matters ideally in (re)insurance.

Excellent communication, drafting and negotiation skills and the ability to adapt and work effectively with a variety of dynamic work.  

A proactive, practical approach and enjoy working as part of a team. Previous experience working in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple deadlines and tasks.

What makes you stand out?

Knowledge of (re)insurance-specific laws and regulations would be beneficial. Relevant experience within professional services, insurance, or financial services company.
