ABOUT RELAY
Relay Network, a technology company based in suburban Philadelphia, was co- founded by Denison alum Matt Gillin (’89). The company invented the Customer Feed, a one-to-one dedicated channel that dramatically improves the way in which businesses communicate and engage with their customers, members, patients and employees. With 10+ years of experience, more than 200 enterprise clients, and 80 million users on its platform, Relay helps its clients maximize the value of the relationships that they’ve cultivated.
ABOUT HIP
HIP (Hitschler Internship Program) was named for Tony and Lynn Hitschler, who are beloved investors, entrepreneurs, philanthropists, educators, and friends of the Relay team. The HIP mission (inspired by Lynn and Tony) is to ignite a spark, to show the next generation that anything is possible, that there’s always a solution, that it’s never a straight line. And the secret is to enjoy your days, appreciate the people you work with, be right more than you’re wrong, and to celebrate your successes together.
PROGRAM SPECIFICS
The program is designed as an 8-week immersion into a specific company department. Students also receive a broad overview of the entire business, are exposed to department heads, and learn how the different teams inter-operate to drive results.
We offer internships in Sales, Marketing, HR, Finance, Data Analytics, Product Management, and Operations. We also offer a tract in Technology, but those students must complete a competency assessment, to ensure that they can deliver quality code.
We assign each student with a mentor, who will assign one or more projects over the 8-week period, answer any questions, and provide regular check-ins to ensure that project deliverables are on track.
The program is designed to be educational and meaningful: Students are given “real” work to complete, and are tasked with defining the value that their projects contribute to Relay.
The program is also designed to be fun: We host Lunch and Learn sessions with employees and community leaders, host Relay trivia, and enable the students to develop their own business ideas.
During the final week of the program, each intern presents a summary of their contributions to their peers, and to a select group of Relay leaders.
IDEAL CANDIDATES
Our selection process is highly competitive. Ideal candidates are juniors, who are contemplating a career in business. And our expectations are high: We ask that the interns bring a positive attitude every day, demonstrate their curiosity and coachability, think critically, hit their project timelines, and make meaningful contributions to company goals.
PROGRAM SCHEDULE
The HIP program runs for 8 weeks, from early June through July. The average workday is 6 hours (9:00 AM – 3:00 PM).
We strongly prefer that the students work in our office (since it builds camaraderie and provides the physical dimension of how a business operates); however, we can accommodate remote work.
THE OPPORTUNITY
Our hope is that the participating students gain a ton of knowledge: how a business is structured; how different departments inter-operate; and how to work in a professional setting.
Most importantly, students can determine if the experience confirms their interest in a business career, and/or in a particular business discipline.
The program is a paid internship opportunity.
