Release of Information Specialist
Job Descriptions: Salary: $23.20- $27.40 depending on experience! Benefit Highlights: + Employer-paid Health Insurance (medical, dental and vision): 100% for employee and 80% for dependents. + 17 days PTO per year, 11 Paid Holidays, 8+ Sick Days (1 hour for every 30 hours worked) + Retirement Plan with 6% match ROI Specialist Job Duties: + Answers outside calls in a timely and polite manner; takes transferred calls to assist patients; responds to any patient messages. + Responsible for timely completion of all requests to receive information for Chapa- De including the medical, dental, and behavioral health departments; this includes working with patients to receive records of outside care. + Responsible for coordinating and responding to requestors for Release of Information including patients, physicians and other healthcare providers, insurance companies and lawyers. + Responsible for responding to and processing subpoenas and court orders. + Demonstrates knowledge of and adheres to all Federal and State regulations on releasing patient information, HIPAA, Protected Health Information (PHI) and maintaining patient confidentiality. + Verifies authorizations in accordance with State and Federal laws. + In the absence of the Health Information Manager, may answer questions requiring immediate attention; and may consult with designated staff when patient health record questions arise. Required Experience: Requirements: + Associate’s degree in healthcare or high school graduate/GED with a minimum of three (3) years of increasing responsibilities and work experience in maintaining patient health records required. + Comprehensive understanding of State and Federal regulations regarding the release of health records, including but not limited to, sensitive records, HIV records, reproductive health records, mental health records, subpoenas, and government requests. + Knowledge of Federal and State patient confidentiality requirements. + Proven customer service experience and/or training with ability to communicate effectively verbally and through writing. + Experience and ability to recognize and interpret a variety of healthcare reports and documents and know where to locate them in health records. Must be detail oriented and organized. + Strong ability to handle multiple priorities with interruptions. + Basic computer knowledge, e.g., E-mail, Electronic Health Record applications, Release of Information application, Chart Tracking/Locating, etc. + Knowledge of Health Information Department practices and concepts. + Ability to Represent CDIHP in a positive and professional manner. + Current and in good standing: Valid Driver’s License , vehicle insurance and DMV report.
