Job Summary
The Marathon Kenai Refinery is seeking a motivated, team-oriented individual to provide fixed equipment program management and technical support for the site reliability team. The Reliability Fixed Equipment Engineer addresses issues which impact the mechanical availability of fixed equipment and piping in order to provide solutions which maximize the mechanical integrity and reliability of these assets. The available schedule for the position is Monday- Thursday -core hours 7 AM - 5 PM, after hours calls are required a few times a year and support of TAR once every three years.
Key Responsibilities
Provide fixed equipment and piping mechanical engineering support to site. Use experience and engineering perspective to provide support for troubleshooting, root cause failure analysis, and issue resolution.
Maintain awareness of Company specifications and standards requirements as well as latest industry best practices, technology and equipment design. Develop and deliver site training to educate, inform and guide refinery personnel on application of technical standards.
Provide quality assurance, technical support, and consistent application of MPC and industry standards and procedures to Maintenance, Operations, Engineering, and TAR groups for new and existing equipment installations. Develop repair plans for equipment deficiencies identified.
Promote safe work environment by providing engineering support to refinery safety programs. Participate in reliability or equipment-related incident investigations. Ensure refinery compliance with Process Safety Management Mechanical Integrity for refinery fixed equipment. Participate in area HAZOP reviews.
Provide technical support through all phases of capital and expense projects. Participates in technical reviews to ensure detailed mechanical engineering meets design specifications, codes and engineering standards.
Review and respond to fixed equipment inspection recommendations assigned. Perform and provide support for equipment FFS to address equipment deficiencies identified.
Initiate and lead root cause failure analysis for fixed equipment/piping events to understand causes for failures and identify effective corrective actions.
Act as lead for site’s Integrity Operating Window (IOW) program and process unit Corrosion Studies.
Provide engineering and design support for unit shutdowns and turnarounds.
Attend Area Team meetings. Champions MPC’s Reliability and MI programs.
Ensure Management of Change (MOC) process is followed for any changes implemented. Ensure equipment repairs and new installations are properly documented and all process safety information (PSI) and mechanical integrity information is updated.
Education, Experience and Skills
Minimum Qualifications
Must have a Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering. (Education must be obtained/completed prior to start date) (Degree must be accredited in US.)
Must have at least 4 years of post-degree mechanical engineering experience in a refinery, petro-chemical or other related heavy industry.
Must be proficient in Microsoft: Word, Excel and Outlook.
Must be able to wear appropriate PPE in the refinery (respirator), be able to physically perform all tasks in the field and take hair drug test and physical.
Must have a valid driver’s license. (MPC determines valid status.)
Must be able to obtain a TWIC Card.
Must be legally authorized to work in the US without the need for future VISA sponsorship.
Travel Requirement is 5% or less.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience with fixed equipment design, applicable codes, and repairs as well as associated damage mechanisms is preferred.
5 plus years of post-degree mechanical engineering experience in the refining or petrochemical industry is preferred.
