Renal Dialysis Technician
POSITION PURPOSE Under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN), provides care in an outpatient setting to patients with End Stage Renal Disease. Performs patient care and selected procedures that comply with all established standards and practices. Performs other related duties as needed, within the framework, training, and education. MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED High School Diploma, or equivalent required. Associate Degree in Renal Technology or equivalent training and/or experience preferred. MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED Entry Level LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED Current CCHT (Certified Clinical Hemodialysis Technician) or CHT (Certified Hemodialysis Technician) certification or the ability to obtain certification within 18 months of hire. Current BLS and/or CPR certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross or the ability to obtain certification within 6 weeks of hire. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED The ability to read, write, speak, hear and comprehend the English language. PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES Provides patient care according to approved hospital policies and procedures. Able to initiate and discontinue hemodialysis treatments with various access types. Monitors patients during dialysis treatments, charts observations, observes patients for complications and communicates appropriate information to Nursing staff. Able to perform routine disinfection/cleaning of hemodialysis equipment and satisfactorily maintain related records. Administers dialysis medications according to established hospital procedures. Accesses, inputs, and retrieves information from the information system. Effectively operates and troubleshoots the water system, solution delivery and the hemodialysis machine during treatments. Prepares bicarbonate solution for distribution through the distribution system.
