Rendezvous and Proximity Operations Navigation Oversight Engineer (BT-24161)

The Rendezvous and Proximity Operations Navigation Oversight Engineer will support the JETS II contract in Houston, Texas. This position will work on the JETS ISS Rendezvous and Proximity Operations (RPO) Team providing technical oversight, program integration and certification of ISS visiting vehicle Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GN&C) systems in support of commercial visiting vehicle missions to the International Space Station (ISS).\n
\n

RESPONSIBILITIES:\n\nCertify GN&C system requirements compliance through review of analysis and test reports, including assessment of navigation sensor performance, trajectory dispersions, and other GN&C parameters.\nCertify fault tolerance safety requirements compliance through review of GN&C-related hazard reports and associated verification evidence, including communicating uncovered issues to a Safety Review Panel.\nIdentify and recommend solutions to GN&C\/Rendezvous and Proximity Operations performance related issues.\nCommunicate status of compliance reviews to ISS program management.\nConduct performance assessments on delivered GN&C data from visiting vehicle providers and provide feedback on compliance.\nProvide feedback on Monte Carlo trajectory analyses using independent 6 degrees-of-freedom simulations.\nProvide engineering inputs to operational products, such as flight rules and on-orbit demonstration plans.\nProvide console support during real-time ground monitoring of the visiting vehicle's GN&C system on missions.\nMaintain relationships with a diverse technical team, including personnel from engineering, safety, flight operations, crew office, and visiting vehicle providers.\nOther duties as assigned. \n\n

REQUIRED:\n

\n\nThis position requires US Citizenship or Permanent Resident status due to the sensitivity of customer related information. \nRequires a bachelor's degree in engineering.\nMust have 2+ years of recent and related experience. \nExperience with orbital mechanics, and GN&C principles with an emphasis on navigation.\nExperience with navigation sensor selection (IMU, SIGI, Star Tracker, GPS, LIDAR, visible and infrared cameras, etc.), navigation filter design, and\/or navigation architecture development.\nKnowledgeable of systems engineering and how it's applied at the GN&C subsystem level.\nKnowledge in the development of GN&C algorithms and analyzing system performance for spacecraft.\nExperience with design, verification, testing, and operation of GN&C hardware and software.\nExperience with the development of space system requirements and documents.\nAbility to work in a team environment consisting of NASA civil servants and contractor employees.\n\n
\n

DESIRED:\n\nMS in Aerospace Engineering with a focus on GN&C, flight controls, and orbital mechanics.\nExperience with spacecraft rendezvous, proximity operations, and capture\/docking.\nFamiliarity with spacecraft docking systems.\nWorking knowledge of NASA, JSC, and ISS standard practices and requirements, including safety and fault tolerance.\nExperience with NASA flight operations and procedures.\nFamiliarity with NASA\/JSC documentation databases and SharePoint sites.\nExperience with LINUX, Python, and C\/C++.\nExperience with MATLAB and Simulink toolboxes.\nExperience with the NASA Trick simulation architecture and JEOD (JSC Engineering Orbital Dynamics).\nExperience with Git\/GitLab version control.\n\n

WORK LOCATION: \n\nThis position is located onsite. \nThis position offers a 9\/80 schedule, every other Friday off.\nThis position may require some travel. \n\n
\n

BACKGROUND INVESTIGATIONS REQUIRED:\n

STANDARD BASTION REQUIREMENTS:\n\nMust have experience with Microsoft Office Suite.\nAll of Bastion's employees must be team players. \nAble to communicate effectively, verbally and in written form, with internal and external customers.\nAble to follow company programs, processes, procedures, practices, requirements, goals, and objectives.\nMust have a strong work ethic and must be safety culture oriented.\nMust be organized with good time management skills.\nGenerally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on the task.\nWork may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time). \nMay require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of time).\nRegular attendance in accordance with an established work schedule is critical.\nAbility to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.\n\n
