We’re seeking someone who is personable enough to hold court with a room full of executives, and savvy enough to spot trends and news in the retirement plan and institutional investment industries and accompanying marketplace. The right person will work with industry sources to deliver daily news stories, scoops, and larger trend pieces on top retirement plans, recordkeepers, investment firms, etc. —all backed with excellent writing skills.
What You'll Do:
Produce daily news and feature-length articles for the brands’ websites
Develop close contacts within the employer-sponsored retirement plan world
Break news across the executive, legislative and regulatory arenas by working sources, reporting from conferences and attending public meetings. Focus on the federal compliance landscape of the Department of Labor, Treasury Department, IRS and SEC.
Managing multiple assignments while meeting daily, weekly, and monthly deadlines
Sourcing and producing interviews with retirement plan/adviser/asset allocator executives and other industry thought leaders
Producing newsletters and posting stories to the web
Ability to network and greet a room
What We Need from You:
0-5 years' experience as a reporter or financial industry professional who takes initiative in finding, pitching, and delivering well-reported and “actionable” stories about issues affecting retirement plans/plan advisers/asset allocators Ability to multitask and to deliver 1-2 news stories per day, plus regular feature and in-depth stories
Good track record of reporting on the financial industry
Ability to read, understand and break news from court filings, financial and legislative documents
Good communication skills
Knowledge of AP Style
Bachelor’s degree required
Added plus: Understanding of financial markets and investing, HTML, WordPress, FinalCut Pro, podcast, and copyediting experience
This role is based in New York City or Washington, DC.
The NYC Midtown location is centrally located near Grand Central Station and Port Authority.
The Washington, DC location is Metro accessible.
Base salary: The New York City and DC expected base pay range is $65,000 - $75,000 per year. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and level of education.
The role is bonus or sales incentive eligible.
