The successful candidate:
The Health Information Representative responds to all requests for medical record information from various requestors including health care providers, patients, attorneys, third-party payors, disability, subpoenas, and internal requestors. All Release of Information must be in accordance with HIPAA federal regulations, state regulations and hospital policy. The Health Information Representative interacts with patients in person or by telephone and obtains appropriate authorization for release. The Health Information Representative converts paper medical records to scanned documents to ensure readability, correct indexing, proper orientation and accessibility.
Job Requirements:
Minimum of 2-3 years experience in a medical record department with familiarity in working with diverse facets of medical record activities
Associate degree in Health Information Management with successful completion of the Accreditation Exam preferred
Active membership in AHIMA or equivalent with experience in Health Information Management preferred
Ability to work effectively with other departments, administration, physicians and all ancillary staff
Familiar with federal and state laws and regulations concerning medical records and TJC standards
Ability to utilize computer systems- MS Office with emphasis on Excel, OnBase, Sunrise Clinical Manager (SCM) or similar EMR
Familiar with federal and state laws and regulations concerning medical records, including HIPAA and TJC standards. Ability to work effectively with other departments, physicians and all ancillary staff.
