Job Title Rescue Technician I Agency Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service Department Emergency Services Training Institute Proposed Minimum Salary $20.59 hourly Job Location College Station, Texas Job Type Staff Job Description The Training Support Technician will provide training support to the ESTI Rescue Training Program. The Training Support Technician will prepare training sites prior to course delivery and a will assist Instructors with logistical and operational needs throughout the course. This position will be responsible for maintenance, testing, and repairs of emergency response training equipment. This position regularly assists instructors and US&R Foreman with hands-on training evolutions. This position may be required to support the Texas Task Force-1 response to state or federally declared disasters on occasion. This position reports to the Training Support Foreman. Required Qualifications: + High School Diploma or GED. + One year experience operating heavy equipment, which may include backhoes, forklifts, cranes, and/or driving trucks and backing long trailers. Required Licenses/Certifications: + Must have a valid motor vehicle operator’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment. Preferred Qualifications: + Class A CDL. + Secondary education and/or training in an emergency response related field. + Five years of experience operating heavy equipment. + Two years of experience emergency services, HazMat/Industrial response experience. + Construction equipment operation experience. + Previous experience in the test and evaluation of Emergency Response equipment. Physical Requirements: + Ability to work outdoors exposed to various weather conditions, potential allergens, elevated noise levels, and heat. + Physical conditioning consistent with using required personal protective equipment (SCBA/SAR), setting up classrooms, climbing, crawling in confined spaces, movement and/or lifting of training and project and rescue equipment, training props up to 80 lbs. while performing rescue training. + Ability to communicate orally and in writing. + Ability to travel independently to other and/or remote locations by driving and/or flying on commercial airlines. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: + Knowledge of basic office software and instructional programs. + Working knowledge of tools and ability to operate mechanized equipment used in the program. + Ability to follow instructions and detailed protocol. + Ability to communicate clearly (oral/written) and effectively to ensure understanding. + Knowledge of training safety guidelines and equipment maintenance. + Knowledge and understanding of approved personal protective equipment (PPE) for all actions and tasks associated with job duties to include safe operation of heavy equipment. + Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Equipment: + Standard office equipment: computer, keyboard, multifunctional printer, telephone. Requires TEEX ESTI Certification to operate: + Backhoe + Skid Steer Loader + Aerial Boom Lift + Crane + Telehandler + Forklift + Hand/power tools + Construction/ Fabrication Equipment: welder, torches, compressor, threader Notifications: + This position is security sensitive. + This position may require work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends. + This position requires compliance with state and federal laws/codes and Texas A&M University System/TEEX regulations and procedures. + All tasks and job responsibilities must be performed safely without injury to self or others in compliance with System and Agency safety requirements. + As part of TEEX’s mission of providing training, developing practical solutions, and saving lives; this position could be required, if called upon, to deploy within the State of Texas as directed by this position’s Division Director/HQ Department Head. + Ability to travel independently to other and/or remote locations by driving a personal or TEEX vehicle and/or flying on commercial airlines. Essential Duties, Tasks, and Percentages: Support Rescue Program courses in the delivery of training exercises - 50% + Prepare training sites prior to course delivery. + Operate machinery and equipment (backhoe, skid loader, forklift, crane, etc.) to move concrete, lumber, steel, and heavy loads in support of US&R training. + Work with Instructors to assist with course and student needs. + Take down and/or clean training sites at conclusion of course delivery. Maintain training facilities and equipment to assure a safe and effective environment for delivery of US&R Division training programs - 45% + Maintain neat and clean general staff areas. + Assure tools and equipment are accounted for and stored in proper locations. + Ensure that security of facility and content is sufficient and appropriate at all times. + Construct, install, or complete facility improvements as necessary and at the direction of supervisor. May provide support to Texas A&M Task Force deployment as needed - 5% + Assist and support logistics personnel. + Prepare cache for deployment and transport as needed. + Recover assets and account for issued equipment. Assist with the deployment of US&R cache in allowable timeframe upon direction by ESTI Division Director. Other Duties: + Interact respectfully and professionally with staff and external partners. + Work well with teams to accomplish training deliverables Complete training needed for equipment operation and learning. + Performs additional work duties as assigned.
