Position Description:
Generates fundamental analysis of the sector, industry, companies, and stocks by collaborating with top management of companies, industry experts, sell side analysts, and experienced colleagues. Develops valuation analysis on stocks and proposes investment recommendations (versus sector or versus market) for assigned stocks. Consistently develops, clearly articulates, and effectively communicates investment recommendations supported by a comprehensive and thoughtful research process. Monitors fundamental economic, industrial, and corporate developments by analyzing information from financial publications and services, investment banking firms, government agencies, trade publications, company sources, or personal interviews.
Primary Responsibilities:
Creates detailed financial projections.
Evaluates capital needs of client(s).
Performs fundamental equity research on a coverage universe.
Contributes to the investment performance of the firm.
Provides investment proposals for portfolios.
Assesses market conditions to inform structuring of financial packages.
Interprets data on price, yield, stability, future investment-risk trends, economic influences, and other factors affects investment programs.
Prepares plans of action for investments, using financial analyses.
Engages with senior level management to discover new investment opportunities.
Education and Experience:
Master’s degree (or foreign education equivalent) in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Statistics, Business Administration, Mathematics, or a closely related field and two (2) years of experience as a Research Analyst (or closely related occupation) performing fundamental investment research and analysis on Japanese companies.
Skills and Knowledge:
Candidate must also possess:
Demonstrated Expertise (“DE”) analyzing investment opportunities across the industrial, technology hardware, and staffing sectors in Japan.
DE performing financial modeling and valuation analysis according to Japanese GAAP using Excel, Bloomberg, FactSet, and Capital IQ.
DE evaluating investment opportunities to prepare investment proposals and recommendations using valuation methodologies (discounted cash flow) and analyses (scenario, comparable company, and liquidation value).
DE engaging with senior level management of Japanese publicly traded companies or of Nikkei ranked Japanese companies to analyze quality of governance and potential investment opportunities.
