About the Department
Job Summary
This position conducts research projects and organizes daily operation of projects and specialized research areas to ensure work meets established objectives under moderate supervision. Also, provides assistance to users as they operate equipment in the facility.
Responsibilities
Collaborates with researchers to conceptualize, prepare samples, and collect data for Volume EM projects.
Works with researchers (e.g., David Pincus, Ben Glick, Mohammad Kaplan) to integrate new samples or preservation techniques with volume EM imaging.
Trains internal and external users on various EM techniques, High Pressure Freezing, OTO sample processing, Cryo-Chem sample prep, electron tomography, Array Tomography and Serial BlockFace Tomography.
Ensures instrument readiness and accuracy by performing routine calibrations.
Diagnoses and resolves hardware and software issues, coordinating with vendors for maintenance and repairs.
Manages inventory and ensures the laboratory operates smoothly.
Assists with cryo-EM sample loading into Krios and Glacios systems.
Coordinates LN2 supply management and deliveries.
Provides technical and administrative support for a research project.
Analyzes and maintains data and/or specimens. Conducts literature reviews. Assists with preparation of reports, manuscripts and other documents.
Installs, sets up and performs experiments; interacting with students and other laboratory staff under the direction of the principal investigator.
Performs other related work as needed.

Preferred Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry or field of study related to the research of the laboratory.
Masters degree strongly preferred.
Experience:
Experience working in a research laboratory or core facility.
Have worked on at least one project using transmission and/or scanning electron microscopy.
Experience working within a biomedical or electron microscopy-related research laboratory.
