Overall Job Description: Under the general supervision of neuroscience principal investigator, duties include:
-Executes mouse husbandry, genotyping, behavioral assays, immunohistochemistry, imaging, and tissue/sample collection as necessary to conduct neuroscience research. Performs population-based quantitative research tasks including synthesizing data, assisting with data analysis, and managing data files, such as screening, code, output, and dissemination materials. Plans, performs, and presents research experiments to support various ongoing research projects in lab.
-Develops laboratory research policies/protocols and manages day-to-day laboratory activities and maintenance to ensure research projects and junior researchers are properly supported
-Purchases supplies for the laboratory; manages purchasing paperwork; manages laboratory supplies/equipment and anticipates experimental needs when ordering
-Manages writing and submitting IACUC protocols, other regulatory paperwork, and proper documentation
-Manages laboratory safety procedures and requirements; oversees lab personnel safety training
-Serves as point of contact for laboratory operations at the direction of the PI
-Designs and documents new laboratory protocols; trains laboratory members; and develops, validates, and evaluates behavioral tests as needed to adapt to grant research goals
-Manages data, coordinating with internal and external researchers and technical support to execute research objectives. Helps to train and oversee new lab members, helps with general lab upkeep and maintenance. Helps the PI in the production of graphics, documents, or data for manuscripts and/or grant related products. Conducts literature searches, evidence synthesis for systematic reviews, and other advanced searches of healthcare resources.
-Leads daily operations oversight necessary to meet animal care and use requirements of funding agency and reporting
-Engages in regular communication and meetings with the Principal Investigator and other study personnel.
IEBC (Internal Employee Being Considered.) Skills / Knowledge / Abilities • Ability to translate, adapt and apply academic or practical knowledge in the conduct of biological/health science research is required.
• Organizational skills, attention to details, motivation to learn new techniques, good work ethics.
• Excellent ability to interpret information and protocol requirements, ability to multitask.
• Ability to interact effectively with all levels staff and personnel in the laboratory and beyond.
• Familiarity with UK’s systems (e.g., Ariba e-Catalogue, SAP Concur, and SciShield), knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, and basic computer skills.
• Experience in a biological/health research capacity is strongly preferred. Does this position have supervisory responsibilities?
