Scope of PositionThe co-op will support the development of glass materials and processes that deliver optical fiber solutions with industry-leading optical properties and distinct advantage. The co-op will conduct experiments, design test plans and explore new ways to achieve desired material attributes. In addition to experimentation, the co-op will be responsible for interpretation of experimental data; comparing with literature results; and writing and presenting a final technical report.
Day-to-Day ResponsibilitiesThe co-op will oversee performing suitable background literature searches and executing a project plan.
Provide technical expertise to optical fiber process development projects to increase Corning’s capabilities. Problem solving through advanced technical knowledge of process and property relations, and empirical and modeling data analysis to develop novel designs and to improve product performance Learn new techniques and methods as needed to support the project objectives Assist in the design of experiments, communicate observations, perform related measurements, collect, and summarize data Document the results of the research by the end of the summer and give a final presentation of project outputs. Experiences/Education - Required Pursuing PhD in Ceramic Engineering, Material Science, Mechanical Engineering, or Chemical Engineering, or similar discipline. Ability to develop a hypothesis and an experimental plan to test Ability to build relationships and interact with team Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to effectively present information Experience working in a research lab and report writing Must be available during Spring and Summer 2025 with a graduation date of August 2025 or later Be interested in working for Corning, Inc after graduation, if presented with a full-time job opportunity. The range for this position is $1,635.00 - $3,185.00 biweekly. Starting pay for the successful applicant is prescribed based on geographic location, nature of position, and year in school.
