*The School of Medicine and Center for Shock Trauma and Anesthesiology Research (STAR)/National Study Center * is recruiting for a*Research Assistant, Clinical*position. *JOB SUMMARY* *Job Family - Research:*Research jobs use creativity and systematic study of real-world issues affecting the human condition and discover social and/or scientific information and reach a new understanding to improve the health, justice, and serve the public good. *Sub-Family - Clinical Research:*Assist social scientists in laboratory, survey, and other social science research. May help prepare findings for publication and assist in laboratory analysis, quality control, or data management. The STAR Center's mission is to facilitate translational research in areas related to trauma, tissue injury, critical care, and anesthesiology. With the combined resources of the School of Medicine, the Shock Trauma Center, the National Study Center, and the UMB campus, the STAR-ORC is uniquely positioned to enhance patient care through pre-clinical and clinical research. *SCOPE OF ROLE* Accomplishes responsibilities by applying specialized and theoretical knowledge, principles, and concepts of a professional discipline normally acquired through advanced education or specialized training. Resolves issues and significant matters on behalf of management by utilizing independent judgment, discretion, creativity, and analytical thinking. Contributes to development and evaluation of goals and objectives. Creates solutions to ensure legal and policy compliance. May supervise, mentor, or coordinate work of others (positions that supervise are responsible for service delivery, quality assurance, and employee performance). May independently manage or administer programs, processes, projects, or resources. Applies entry level knowledge, concepts, principles, and skills. Decision making occurs within defined parameters. Supervisor defines assignments, expectations, and deadlines. Supervisor may review work for quality. Demonstrates initiative and discretion to resolve routine and non-routine matters. *PRIMARY DUTIES* Responsible for assisting with the performance of research projects in a clinical setting, including recruitment of potential study subjects and collection and organization of data. Assist with performing data collection by conducting research interviews, reviewing medical charts, and accessing computerized medical information systems. Assists with recruiting and screening subjects for research studies according to IRB approved protocols. Assist in verifying participant eligibility; obtains consent and enrollment; and assures accurate demographic information for follow-up. Assist with data analysis and interpretation, and the development of statistical reports of study datausingdescriptive statistics using SAS, STATA, and SPSS statistical software. Assists in developing, submitting, and providing content for grants, papers, abstracts, manuscripts, and presentations. Conducts and analyzes literature searches. Assist the Principle Investigator and other research personnel in the development of research protocols and materials by providing study analysis and forming conclusions and recommendations. Assist in performing administrative duties. Maintains communication with participants and colleagues regarding protocol specific information and research orders. May also assist with providing assessments and ensuring protocol compliance while participants are in a study. Performs other duties as assigned. Other Qualifications: Able to demonstrate excellent time management and communication skills. Good team player and ability to work independently. Working with MS Excel and MS Word. Working with data and GIS maps, training will be provided. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES: General knowledge of office practices, procedures, and equipment; of spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Skill in performing arithmetic calculations; in performing routine clerical tasks; in filing documents in alphabetic and numeric sequence; in operating manual and automated office equipment. Ability to use applicable hardware such as mainframe, mini, personal or laptop computers and applicable software applications; to communicate effectively with widely diverse groups of people both in person and over the phone; to manage workload, to use time effectively, and to work in a non-office setting; to locate and retrieve files and records from confined spaces and locations which are not easily accessible; to learn to perform basic medical tests such as taking vital signs, blood pressure, and drawing blood. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Some positions may require employees to possess a valid Maryland Noncommercial class C or equivalent driver's license and to use their personal vehicle for transportation. Some positions may require overnight travel. *Other Tasks:* Support and work as part of a team for research projects involving surveys, data collection on field and from databases, web search navigation and reviews.
