Requirements
Georgetown University’s Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center, part of Georgetown University Medical Center (http://gumc.georgetown.edu/) , seeks to prevent, treat, and cure cancers by linking scientific discovery, expert and compassionate patient care, quality education and partnership with the community — guided by the principle of cura personalis, “care for the whole person.” Georgetown Lombardi is the research engine driving clinical cancer research at MedStar Health in the D.C. Metro area and Hackensack Meridian Health in northern New Jersey.
The Research Assistant is a summer temporary position (up to 40 hours/week x 16 weeks) that assists with public health research in the DC catchment area to help understand new ways to lower the burden of cancer. A majority of the cancer burden can be addressed through lifestyle risk-reduction and behavior change. Novel ways are needed to ensure that public health goals are met for lowering cancer causes and improving quality of life. Duties include but are not limited to:
+ Assist with the development and implementation of health and behavior research studies in cancer.
+ Coordinate behavioral intervention trials.
+ Schedule and track participant recruitments, retention, and follow-up survey and assessment administration.
+ Recruit and enroll study participants.
+ Manage data entry, management, and processing when needed.
+ Assist with editing scholarly works.
Work Interactions
The Cancer Prevention and Control program is a designated component of the university’s comprehensive cancer center, and research takes place with and in the DC catchment area to help lower the burden of cancer using public health strategies.
Requirements and Qualifications
+ A high school degree and be enrolled in a college or university program while working toward the completion of a bachelor’s degree in a related area of health and society
+ Familiarity with public health research, data collection, data entry, data cleaning, and data reporting.
+ A working understanding of the scientific method
+ Experience with MSWord, MS Excel, and SPSS is essential

Pay Range
The projected hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is: $22.50 - $25.00. Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University’s business needs and external factors.
