The Biomedical Engineering (BME) Department at Carnegie Mellon University is renowned for its interdisciplinary approach to solving complex healthcare challenges. Located within CMU's College of Engineering, the department emphasizes the integration of engineering principles with biomedical sciences to address pressing medical and biological issues. The department is characterized by its focus on creating impactful technologies and therapies that improve patient care and advance biomedical innovation globally.

BME is seeking a Research Assistant to join the team. This role is expected to develop computer modeling tools and resources for the simulation of cardiovascular disease. This includes the writing of code, running simulations locally and on a computing cluster, processing simulation output into data, interpreting results, and generating appropriate figures. The candidate will be expected to meet regularly with their supervisor to summarize their progress on code development and generation of results and to attend regular lab meetings with oral presentation of their findings in addition to working in a collaborative lab environment with graduate and undergraduate students performing similar research.

Core Responsibilities:       

Performs basic data analysis in order to product reports. Documents results and processes.

May test software prototypes. May interact with research subjects in order to perform job functions.

Performs related duties as assigned.

Follows research plans in order to collect, record, and manipulate research data. Maintains accurate and detailed research records and files.

Performs library research and field explorations.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent required.

A background in biomedical engineering and previous experience in cardiovascular mechanics and computer modeling of the heart and/or blood vessels is expected.

Good oral and written communication skills are critical.

Data collection, analysis and data entry experience.

A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.
