Research Assistant
Working under the direction of Dr. Seth S. Martin and Dr. Francoise Marvel, and close collaborators including Dr. Lena Mathews, Dr. Erin Spaulding, and Dr. Joe Coresh, the **_Research Assistant_** will work full time on digital health studies funded by the American Heart Association (AHA), Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI), and National Institutes of Health (NIH). The team is hiring multiple research assistants and the individual hired into this position will be matched with one or more of the following studies based on interests and skillset. The individual who is successfully hired into this role will have a chance to work with a fun, creative, and highly productive interdisciplinary team and assist on studies that will shape the future of clinical medicine and public health. The mTECH REHAB trial, funded by the AHA, is a parallel-arm randomized clinical trial (N=504) to evaluate the efficacy of the Hybrid Corrie Cardiac Rehabilitation (CR) intervention along with usual care compared to usual care alone in individuals who survive a cardiac event, surgery, or procedure, and is considered low to moderate risk for unmonitored exercise. Recruitment is already underway in this trial, which is evaluating the impact of the intervention on the difference in walking distance measured by 6 min walk test and multiple secondary outcomes after 16 weeks. Current study sites include Johns Hopkins Hospital, Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, Suburban Hospital, and Howard County Hospital. The DOT-HF trial, funded by the AHA, is a parallel-arm randomized clinical trial to assess the effectiveness of a digital remote patient monitoring solution to improve the adoption of guideline-directed medical therapy at 90 days post-hospitalization in heart failure patients. We aim to enroll 200 adult patients with HFrEF that are currently admitted or were recently admitted to the hospital in this multi-center trial. Recruitment will occur across Johns Hopkins University, Stanford University, and the University of Michigan. The MCNAIR Study, funded by PCORI, is a multi-center parallel-arm randomized trial of the comparative effectiveness of in-person and telehealth CR. We will evaluate the primary outcome (6 min walk test at 12 months) and secondary outcomes at 3 months, 12 months, and 24 months. We aim to enroll 129 post-CABG patients for this multi-center trial from Johns Hopkins Hospital. Other Centers include the University of California, San Francisco; University of Michigan; and University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. In the upcoming ARIC-NCS Wearable Study, to be funded by NIH, we will provide approximately 875 ARIC participants (age 80+) who own a smartphone with a Fitbit Charge 5 tracker, ongoing technical support, and monetary compensation for data transmission. Onboarding to the Fitbit tracker and smartphone application will be done in Center or at home if the participants prefer. Participants will be encouraged to wear the Fitbit during the day and while sleeping (with brief weekly battery charging), and to open the Fitbit smartphone application daily to enable data synchronization. We will assess wear-time and long-term patterns (over 4 years) in physical activity, heart rate, and sleep. **Specific Duties & Responsibilities** + Act as central point of communication for the research team. + Assist in managing weekly team meetings and data meetings: scheduling, take lead on agenda preparation, help run meetings, keep minutes, track assignments between meetings. + Assist with developing training materials for staff and participants. + Assist with recruitment of study participants and implementation of the protocol. + Become a super user of study technology and serve as the first point of contact for technical problems that participants may experience over time and collaborate as needed with other study team members to solve technical problems. + Assist with monitoring participant adherence and calling participants to re-engage them in the study. + Assist with tracking study progress. + Assist with data acquisition and analysis. + Participate in preparation of abstracts, manuscripts, and national/international conference presentations. **Special Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities** + Must understand and pass all Johns Hopkins online Human Research Certification courses. + Ability to drive to the Comstock Center in Hagerstown, Maryland. + Strong interpersonal skills for communicating with study participants. + Excellent organizational skills to prioritize multiple tasks with attention to detail. + Task-oriented. **Minimum Qualifications** + Bachelor's Degree in related discipline. + Additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula. **Preferred Qualifications** + Master’s or Doctoral Degree in related discipline.
