Research Assistant
Job Description: The Research Assistant (RA) will join our substance-use prevention and intervention research team at Brown University. Fluency in Spanish and English is required. Responsibilities include implementing study protocols such as obtaining participant consent, assent, and parent permission, ensuring biospecimen handling compliance, developing payment and tracking systems, conducting surveys and interviews, managing datafiles, and upholding integrity standards. Additionally, the RA will assist with organizing project documents, conducting literature reviews, preparing materials for sponsors and review boards, and disseminating research findings as necessary. The role may involve accommodating participant schedules outside regular hours. The RA will facilitate communication between monolingual Spanish-speaking participants and the research team, translate study materials, and support safety protocols. They must excel in both participant-facing and behind-the-scenes tasks, engaging with a diverse multidisciplinary team with professionalism and attention to detail. Encouragement for professional development, including bias awareness, is provided, with optional career-path mentorship available. Job Qualifications Education + Required: BA or BS in psychology or related field with one to two years of experience or equivalent combination of other educational degree and experience. Experience + Required: Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel. + Required: Fluency in English and Spanish. + Coursework in research design and/or substance use is preferred. + Experience in database management is preferred. + Clinical interviewing training or prior work experience is preferred. + Clinical research experience is preferred. Job Competencies + Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. + Ability to prioritize and coordinate multiple tasks to meet project goals. + Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. + Flexibility in work schedule, including early evening hours and occasional weekend hours. + Flexibility in work format, including traveling to partner sites and clinics, remote sessions, contacting potential participants and participants through Brown-approved, text-based services outside of normal business hours. + Openness and interest in learning new skills. + Reliable transportation to travel to local partner clinical and community sites is required. + Openness, agreeableness, and interest in learning new skills. + Fluency in English and Spanish is required. + Ability to follow safety protocols for collecting, handling, and storing potentially hazardous biospecimens including breath, urine, or blood samples. + This position entails becoming a member of a multidisciplinary research team and sharing a commitment to accomplish the goals of the research program. + Flexibility is needed to shift work hours to accommodate participant schedules and preferred contact formats. + Opportunities to contribute to presentations and publications may arise, depending on interest and ability. + This position requires a commitment of at least one year, and availability for a renewed commitment based on mutual agreement is preferred. + Commitment to supporting diverse perspectives and cultures in a welcoming and inclusive environment.
