Research Assistant
Job Description: Position Purpose: The Research Assistant will support the work of NIDDK funded Healthy Start, and NHLBI funded Strong Families funded, and potentially other projects as needed and time allows. This coordinator will work on intervention production for all projects including video segments, written and online materials, and newsletters including graphic design, text layout, video editing, voice recording and editing, and other associated work. This position will also assist the project teams in creating, testing and conducting evaluation surveys in Qualtrics, Nutritional Data System for Research (NDSR), and other software. This position will work with families of young children and family home childcare providers, many of whom will be Spanish speaking.. In addition, they will be responsible for assisting with ordering and organizing materials to be provided to participants. This position is hybrid. This position is part-time working 7.5-20 hours a week. The position will require comprehensive training that will be provided in all study procedures. Major responsibilities: + Coordinate (re) creation and editing of intervention video and letters 20% + Conduct on site observations at family childcare homes, or conduct interviews with childcare providers or parents 75% + Coordinates communication with all study investigators 5% Job Qualifications Education and Experience + Bachelor’s Degree in communications or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience. Preferred: + Expertise, experience or demonstrated interest in Maternal and Child Health clinical or public health programs. + 1-2 years’ experience in communication or public health + Video production assistance and editing experience (preferred) + Graphic design and/or other experience in editing or producing written materials (preferred) + Comfort and experience working with people who are in family childcare homes, in, lower-resourced communities, racial and ethnic minorities, and other key populations and marginalized groups + Experience with video editing software, Microsoft Publisher (preferred) + Experience in assisting with research studies + Experience in conducting surveys or interviews for research. + Fluent in Spanish (written and oral) required. Competencies + Comfort and interest in working with diverse populations including young families and childcare providers. + Strong attention to detail, organized, and able to manage competing research demands + Ability to function as a research team member and leader; ability to motivate employees to meet performance goals + Self-starter with the ability to work often independently + Experience and comfort working with diverse student and professional staff with varying educational, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds + Willingness to learn basic human subjects research procedures including on-site observations, quantitative data collection (surveys); qualitative data collection (interviews); and developing health intervention materials + Strong verbal presentation skills, interpersonal skills, and written communication skills + Ability to talk about sensitive topics in a mature and discrete manner + Must possess a willingness and ability to support and promote a diverse and inclusive campus community. This is hybrid eligible. Reliable transportation to childcare sites is needed. This position is a fixed-term research position with a current end date of December 1, 2025.
