Job Summary
A research assistant position is available in the areas of human cognitive neuroscience within the Department of Psychological & Brain Sciences under the direction of Dr. Alexa Tompary. The research assistant will have the opportunity to conduct independent and supervised research projects in service of the lab’s funded research topics relating to long-term memory and concept knowledge. Specifically, this involves designing psychology experiments (methods include online and in-person behavioral experiments, fMRI, TMS), recruiting and running participants, and analyzing data. The applicant will also develop much of the administrative and research infrastructure for this new lab.
The Research Assistant will work closely with Dr. Tompary and will have the opportunity to learn the fundamental principles of experimental design and statistical analysis in cognitive neuroscience. This position is ideal for those looking to eventually complete a PhD in cognitive neuroscience or psychology, although all are welcome to apply.
This is a year-long, grant-funded position, with potential to extend an additional year based on available funding. The earliest start date for this position June 2025.
Essential Functions
Implement advertisement/recruitment plans for research study participants. Schedule and administer behavioral experiments. Assist with maintaining protocol approvals with the NIH and the IRB. Coordinate lab finances, purchase supplies, and complete other administrative tasks. Write research protocols for experiments, and contribute to lab wiki and other documents. Perform fMRI and/or TMS data collection and analysis.Required Qualifications
Minimum of Bachelor's Degree in Neuroscience, psychology, biology, or a related field. Excellent interpersonal communication and organizational skills.Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in a laboratory setting. Knowledge of or motivation to learn programming/coding for stimulus presentation and data analysis. Ability to work and communicate effectively in a team setting toward a common goal.Location

This position is classified as Non-Exempt, grade F. Compensation for this grade ranges from $14.10 - $21.15 per hour. Please note that the offered rate for this position typically aligns with the minimum to midrange of this grade, but it can vary based on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.
