Texas A&M has an opportunity for a Temporary Research Assistant in our dynamic Geology Department! As a Research Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting our research projects by providing skilled administrative and managerial support, as well as planning and directing specific phases of our research initiatives. Your main focus will be conducting research on applying remote sensing and infrared imaging techniques to detect mineral phases in outcrops. Opportunities to Contribute + Identify, summarize, and report remote sensing and mineralogy catalogs to the supervisor + Utilizes techniques from literature reviews to process existing imagery, documenting the necessary time and computing resources + Identifies appropriate targets within selected study sites, creates a schedule of proposed work, and prepares a budget for the proposed work Qualifications + Bachelor’s degree in Geology & Geophysics + Undergraduate coursework consistent with a BS in Geology and Geophysics A well-qualified candidate will also possess one of more or the following + Field geology mapping experience + Interest in structural geology, tectonics, and economic mineralization for planetary exploration + Ability to learn new software + Effective oral and written communication + Positive and professional interaction with colleagues + Excellent communication, organization, and presentation skills + Proficiency in office software + Self-directed research with occasional mentoring Hourly: $21.64 per hour Schedule: This position will be a temporary position Special Note: This position is funded from grant and/or contract funding, which is renewed through provisions of the grantor of the contract.
