Compensation Range

The base pay scale for this position is $21.00 - $21.00. In addition, this position will be eligible for additional benefits consistent with the role. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be determined based on various factors, including but not limited to: scope of role, level of experience, education, accomplishments, internal equity, budget, and subject to Fair Market Value evaluation. The hiring range listed is a good faith determination of potential compensation at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future.

JOB DESCRIPTION: Research Assistant

DEPARTMENT/SERVICE: Dr. Cathleen Raggio, Kathryn O. and Alan C. Greenberg Center for Skeletal Dysplasias
 

Summary:

The Research Coordinator is responsible for coordinating approved studies involving the patients seen at the Kathryn O. and Alan C. Greenberg Center for Skeletal Dysplasias. Our multidisciplinary clinic team meets weekly seeing patients of all ages with skeletal dysplasias. Our mission is to improve the quality of life for people with skeletal dysplasias through patient care, education, and research.

Responsibilities:

The Research Coordinator is a dynamic member of our multidisciplinary team. Research Coordinator is compliant with all regulatory, institutional, and departmental requirements. This role oversees the collection of data and entry; performs data analysis for studies within HSS. Studies will include retrospective trials, outcome trials, non-interventional trials and low risk interventional trials.

Specifically, his or her responsibilities include:

Attending weekly clinic visits, screening participants for enrollment, and consenting/assenting eligible patients

Capable of meeting time demands necessary to execute experiments.

Maintain accurate and detailed records of all laboratory work (human and mouse experiments, and database).

Completion of all trainings related to work in a timely manner, including C14, and animal usage and handling.

Collecting information from participants via interview-style questioning, utilizing and maintaining source documents in accordance with the Code of Federal Regulations and the ICH Guidelines for Good Clinical Practice

Maintains compliance with current Institutional Review Board requirements for participation in research projects; assists in preparation of IRB submissions and writing study documents, manages and executes IRB submissions for initial approvals, reapprovals, amendments, etc.

Providing timely reports to Institutional Review Board (IRB), Principal Investigator, Research Director, National Institutes of Health, and/or sponsor for each research project

Participating in the development of new protocols, prospective databases, and new initiatives.

This includes the independent design of databases and tools to facilitate data collection as required for specific projects (calendars, schedules, tracking logs)

Knowledge of good clinical practice for the handling of specimens and blood is required.

Assists in collecting, transporting, processing, and storing biospecimens such as blood obtained from research patients to the lab.

Responsible for handling, packaging, and shipping of dangerous goods and in compliance with State and Federal regulations, and includes tissue, blood, dry ice, and chemicals.

Certification in these procedures is required in accordance with the Federal Regulations.

Ordering study supplies, collects specimens and takes them to the laboratory sections for analysis, using appropriate or specified equipment for collecting and handling specimens.

Responsible for logging specimens into the laboratory computer system, and entering data into electronic case report forms

Required to be trained on the online data capture system, and use of Epic software, Human Subjects Research (CITI) and Responsible Conduct of Research training.

Coordinating and attending weekly laboratory meetings, monthly coordinator phone conferences, and periodic multicenter collaborator meetings

Writing abstracts and journal manuscripts for publication.

Completing additional duties as delegated.

Educational Requirements: Bachelors

Minimum Years of Experience: 0-2 years

Type of Experience: Science/Clinical Research

Skills Required:

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Strong customer service orientation.

Proficient in the use of computers and software, including Microsoft Excel and Word.

Skills Preferred: Knowledge of Orthopedic and/or Rheumatologic terminology is a plus.
