Position Availability: available immediately Fall 2024 Position Title: Research Assistant in Poetry and Media Studies Requisition Number: 0406073527 Location New York City Position Type: Student Department: SPE/Media Studies Responsibilities: Professor Margaret Rhee seeks 1 – 2 Research Assistants to assist on research and media art projects and participate in a feminist and queer media research lab focused in the fields of queer and feminist arts and collectivity. The research tasks and responsibilities will include assistance on respective book projects, event organizing, assistance with the Arts Writing MFA concentration, and the administration of the Palah 파랗 Light Lab. The Palah 파랗 Light Lab is a queer feminist media lab which fosters poetry, participation and pedagogy through technology, queer feminism, and equity and currently based out of The New School, School of Public Engagement.

This position is part of the SENS-UAW position and therefore subject to the terms and conditions of the collective bargaining agreement (CBA).

Research Assistant Responsibilities: Research assistants will be assigned research tasks based on their research, artistic, and organizing interests and participate in a research collective to strengthen their research and artistic interests. Research assistants will learn how to strengthen their research and writing skills, gain experience of the academic book editorial process and event organizing. Students will collaborate closely with graduate colleagues and a faculty member in the fields of queer of color film, poetry and new media studies, Asian American, and technology cultural studies and media studies. Working with the Palah Light Lab, students will help create an academic program for queer and feminist graduate students, and gain experience working across The New School and partnering schools to support queer feminist graduate students and independent media artists and activists.
Palah 파랗 Light Lab is a creative and critical space that fosters poetry, participation, and pedagogy through technology and equity. As a knowledge-design, new media, and poetry lab, the Palah Light Lab investigates critical questions in cultural criticism along with the networked arts and humanities. Utilizing a feminist and queer-centered approach, we are interested in design anchored in the humanities and scholarship informed by transdisciplinary practices and technology.

Salary/Hourly – Rate/Range: $30.16 / hr/2.5 – 3 weekly hours

work mode is on-campus/online Minimum Qualifications: Desired educational qualifications and experience include: Currently, the lab seeks an advanced undergraduate or graduate student in media studies and/or creative writing with strong background in web design, graphic design and academic research skills in digital media studies, race, and technology. Specifically, interests in queer feminist ethnic and Asian American studies, creative writing and media arts, programing experience and/or interest in organizing academic events; ability to work independently and collaboratively with diverse communities; professional communication practices and strong leadership skills and/or the desire to strengthen leadership skills in a collective environment; professional interests in the academic editorial process and academic, teaching, and/or literary and media arts, publishing, and activism are desired. A key component to this position is the ability to update and maintain the website, and assist with design and research tasks for scholarship in media studies.
