Responsibilities
St. Josephs Hospital and Medical Center and the Barrow Neurological Institute (BNI) have consistently been recognized for clinical and research excellence in an academic medical center setting and for the high quality of patient and employee experiences in the organizations.  Laboratory-based research and patient-oriented clinical studies have international stature and often involve extensive collaborations with academic and industry partners regionally nationally and globally.  There are educational experiences at secondary school undergraduate graduate and post-graduate levels.  Administrative functions ensure that there is safe ethical and responsible conduct of research and facilitate research management and interfaces with other units in the Hospital and Institute.  Opportunities exist to become part of this unique and dynamic enterprise.JOIN US NOW as we are seeking a RESEARCH ASSOCIATE to join our Research Department to initiate and conduct research.

The Manfredsson laboratory at Barrow Neurological Institute is currently hiring several highly motivated Research Faculty within the areas of gene therapy neurodegeneration and electrophysiology. The group is focused on developing novel gene therapy modalities to study and treat neurodegeneration and associated symptomology with a primary focus on Parkinson’s disease. The position is catered to all levels however Junior/Research Faculty with a NIH ESI status will be given special consideration. Our group practices team science utilizing a multitude of interdisciplinary approaches in our research ranging from electrophysiology to viral vector design and production. Our research outcomes range from molecular biology omics and histology. Although we are interested in all research backgrounds priority will be given to fellows with experience in either in vivo fiber photometry ex vivo electrophysiology and calcium imaging. A second priority is experience with DNA/RNA and molecular biology advanced viral vector engineering and in vivo assessment processing of human post-mortem brain specimens and next-gen sequencing and analysis. Experience with computer programming will be considered a plus. Research Faculty in the laboratory are expected to take the lead on a multitude of projects contribute to grant writing and supervise junior trainees. Required: PhD MD or equivalent. Highly collegial and works well on a team. Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to communicate with precision and tact. Meticulous record keeping; proficiency with databases.


Qualifications

Two (2) years of experience following the Ph.D. M.D. or D.SC. degree in a field related to current area of research required.

Beyond minimum required experience writing grant applications for support of own work preferred.

Laboratory skills and techniques execution and development required.

Required: Proficient in computer skills.

Mathematical scientific reasoning and oral and written communication skills adequate to initiate independent work.
