Research Associate, Biochemistry
Actalent is seeking a talented research associate to join its growing biochemistry team. This role will assist in the development of novel adsorbents by implementing molecular biology workflows for protein production. Additionally they will perform plate and chromatography-based biochemical assays and assist with maintaining basic lab functionality. A successful candidate will have prior experience in a biochemistry or molecular biology lab. The individual will join a group of collaborative scientists with diverse skill sets and should have strong communication skills, critical thinking skills, and a rigorous approach to lab work. Responsibilities: ● Execute standard molecular biology workflows related to protein production. This may include, but not be limited to, PCR, shake flask culture, affinity tag-based protein purifications, and gel electrophoresis. ● Carry out standardized chromatography workflows on FPLC and HPLC instruments. ● Perform and analyze high-throughput plate-based assays using liquid handlers and plate readers. ● Assist with basic lab tasks, such as preparing stock solutions, washing dishes, autoclaving, etc. ● Maintain a well organized digital lab notebook and present results to team members and supervisors. ● Collaborate with diverse science and engineering teams to deliver project goals. ● Work in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary environment, both independently and within a team. Additional Skills & Qualifications Required qualifications: ● B.S. in biochemistry, molecular biology, chemical engineering, chemistry, or related field. ● 2-5 years industry experience in a lab environment. ● Experience performing standard biochemistry and molecular biology workflows related to protein production. ● Experience performing chromatography using FPLC or HPLC instruments. ● Experience performing plate-based chemical and biochemical assays. ● Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to work within and among different teams. ● Strong organizational and record keeping ability. Desired qualifications: ● Experience with working with Bacillus strains for protein production. ● Experience performing bioconjugation reactions or chemical synthesis. ● Experience using liquid handler robots. ● Familiarity with coding (e.g., Python or R). Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $28.85 - $45.67 Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
