Research Associate, The Beirne-Carter Immunology Center

The Beirne-Carter Immunology Center at the University of Virginia seeks a Research Associate to perform sophisticated experimental research in the areas of viral infection, lung injury, recovery and chronic disease development following influenza or SARS-CoV-2. The qualified applicant should have research experience on viral infection; cell biology and quantification of tissue pathology in mice are preferred. Experience in characterization of tissue immune compositions using immunofluorescence and/or flow cytometry is also preferred

The incumbent will participate in a multiplicity of relevant lab projects and in writing study reports for the study sponsors, papers, and grant applications and is expected to develop research programs as time permits. The incumbent will also be expected to attend and participate in laboratory meetings and CIC-related seminars, as well as work with graduate students, technicians, fellows and collaborators in the laboratories involved in the project. 

Job responsibilities include:

Full-time research or scholarship at the University

Preparatory for a full-time academic or research career

Supervised by a senior scholar; and allows the appointee to publish the results of his/her research or scholarship

In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned

Minimum Requirements:

Doctoral degree at the time of hire.

Experience in molecular biology, microscopy, cellular immunology, murine models of disease, and human samples is preferred.

Physical demands: This job involves extensive bench, animal work and use of desktop/laptop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.

This is a restricted position; continuation is dependent on funding and satisfactory performance.
