The Department of Dermatology has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Research Associate 1, SOM to work in Miami, FL. The Research Associate 1, SOM supports research activities for the assigned division by conducting laboratory experiments on assigned research projects. Moreover, the incumbent operates with the goal of advancing his/her expertise through continued education, training, and research.

Understands and interprets research protocols and procedures.

Participates in the publication of significant results.

Maintains an overview of relevant research findings.

Ensures all research is undertaken according to good research practice.

Keeps abreast of current publications relative to methods, techniques, and developments within the area of research.

Collects, prepares, analyzes, dissects, and evaluates specimens or tissue cultures.

Operates and maintains laboratory equipment.

Performs a variety of routine assays, tests, and studies.

Performs calculations to complete research test results, collects data, and performs statistical analysis of laboratory results.

Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS                                                                                                                                       

Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field require

Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.

Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.

Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.

Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.

DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS

Candidate will function as a Research Associate in the Department of Dermatology- Stone Laboratory (https://med.miami.edu/labs/stone-lab). The Stone Laboratory uses translational approaches to study molecular mechanisms of inflammation and fibrosis in skin repair responses and is part of the Wound Healing and Regeneration research program. The candidate will have prior experience with core molecular biology techniques specified below to conduct and interpret experiments that advance the laboratory’s research goals. Additional training will be provided on the application of these techniques to the study of skin biology. Candidates with demonstrated the ability to work creatively and independently are most likely to succeed in this role.

The following are specific requirements for this position:

Perform standard cell and molecular biology laboratory techniques

REQUIRED: RNA isolation, real-time qPCR (experimental setup and data analysis), immunofluorescence and/or immunohistochemistry, sterile cell culture technique

OPTIONAL: murine experimental models, western blots, flow cytometry, spatial profiling, genomic data analysis

Prepare culture media, chemicals, reagents and solutions

Manage ordering of supplies and equipment to maintain sufficient inventory

Organize and maintain laboratory data in a shared cloud storage space

Collect, organize, analyze and draw preliminary conclusions from experimental data

Confer with Principal Investigator to review work assignments and develop plans for research experiments

Review laboratory methods manual, scientific journals, abstracts and other literature for information applicable to research experiments

Display effective oral and written communication skills in the English
